Does this sound strange? Boston Pro60
Does this sound strange? Boston Pro60
I recently had two sets speakers installed in my car by so called professionals, one of 2 Authorized Boston Dealers within 50 miles of my house.
Some people on this board helped me out earlier, so I seek your assistance once again.
I'll try to provide as much info as possible:
Boston Pro60s up front. (Axis Mount)
Boston NX97s in the rear.
My sub is a 10" Diamond CM310
My amp is a JL 500/5 (100w x 2 Front) (25w x 2 Rear) (250w x 1 Sub)
My head unit is an Alpine CDA-9835
The installion receipt says, "Install 4 Speakers, Run Leads Into Door, Use Largest Gauge Possible."
When I first got into the car and started playing with it, I noticed that the rear speakers dominated the sound for about 75% of the volume range...It was only after I cranked the volume up the whole way that you could hear the fronts overcoming the rear.
The Store Manager said, these speakers are like that you need to listen to them loudly. I accepted that initially, because he seemed like a decent honest guy. As I tried different music from different sources (mp3/CDs/Radio) it became clear that something just didn't add up.
When I use the Alpine head unit to fade from front to rear...if I fade all the way to the rear, they are louder compared to the the fronts when fully faded to the front.
That didn't make sense to me because the front channels get 100w and the rears get 25w. Also these speakers are no slouches, but they didn't seem to possess the loud, pure, highs I heard in the store demo.
I've already determined that the speaker wire is connected to the correct channels. I thought that just maybe they put them in the wrong place...but they are in the correct channels.
I'm stumped, and I'm just thinking about getting a refund, because it hurts to say that old bose tweeters were louder...but that could be because they are mounted by my feet. Should I have them relocated to the A-piller?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

when you say correct channel, what about the polarity, (+) and (-).???
then check the settings on the amp (the gain) and the settings on the alpine, not just the fade and balance, if your alpine is higher grade, it has many more features that may affect the loudness and time correction.

Thanks I'll check that out after work today...
Is it plausible that the rear speakers are louder than the front...Should they be?

no really, only reason if any that the fronts are not as loud is because they are down low and that the gains on the amp are set higher for the rears.
polarity can also casue the speaker to be out of phase and cause the backs to only sound louder.

What would that knob look like? What units does it have?
Also, are my expectations too high? Shouldn't the Pro60s demolish the NX97s in loudness, especially with 4x the power going to them?
