DIY Navi-DVD conversion

Ok, so I like to do things myself, and hate to pay lots of money for something I could do cheaper. This leads up to this project, "DIY Navi-DVD on the cheap".

I wanted DVD on my navi, but I can't justify (or right now afford) a $600 converter when I still have to go buy a ~$200 DVD player and ~$100 AUX in for audio. Add those up and we're at ~$900 I can't get around the DVD and the AUX price, unless I want to and a DC-AC converter or go FM wireless, and those are just not acceptable to me. DC-AC conversion is silly when the AC DVD player just convertes the power back into DC, and FM modulation is bad sounding to me.

So where am I going with this?

If you're willing to do a bit of work on your own, dont mind tapping into wires, the ~$600 converter can be replaced with a $130 converter (without a TV tuner) and ~$20 in misc parts ($600-$150 is $450 saved).

But does it work? And where are the pics? Yep, and here are the final resulting pics:

The pics are a bit blurry because of the low quality digital cammera and sounddomain shrinking the images, not the Navi-DVD converter. The DVD playing is the Nine Inch Nails concert video.

For those that are interested, I'll be writting a how-to later, don't have the time for it today

I just learned the first downside to this, sitting in your car too long while watching the screen... my first dead battery :thumbsdn:

Sorry for the long delay on this. I have got everything in, and it looks great... with the engine off. When I start the car, I get engine noise in the video. It was pretty bad at first, there were huge light and dark diagonal lines that moved across the screen. I have been able to get rid of the worst of it, but there still is some.... So until I get rid of it all, I'm not going to post anything.

For the amount of time this has taken, and all of the work I have had to do, this is quickly becomming not worth the effort. If this becomes much more of a pain in the ass, I'm going to send the converter back.
