Dimmer not working on stereo/temp control

I got in my car this morning and turned the lights on and I noticed that my clock, stereo, and climate control were all a little bright in comparison to the dash. I played with the dimmer and no dice, they all stayed on full blast with the exception on the dash.

Anyone have any ideas why this would be, or has anyone seen this before?

I'll preface this with I installed a capacitor last night on the + side of my driver's side tweeter to see if it would get rid of the buzzing.

Thanks again!

Ok...I looked at it again this evening before class and it's not necessarily the dimmer. From what I can tell the stereo is not going into it's "lights on" mode.....meaning that none of the greenish leds are coming on and the stereo isn't dimming. It's pretty annoying at night actually.

I need help here!!! Warranty is almost up and after installing the soundgate adapter I'm not sure the dealership would be too keen on replacing a $2000 headunit for a light issue.

Thanks!

It sounds like your dimmer is stuck in the daytime mode. It's a rotary encoder feeding an ECU of some sort...encoder might be bad?

SSN_FT1(SS/DV) if i were you i would remove the capacitor that you installed on the tweeter, soundgate adapter and anything else you did that might be related to anything near the stereo and make it look like nothing had been changed. Then I would bring it back to the dealer. Remer a dealer would need to prove that the aftermarket additions were the cause of the injury/fault in order to void the warranty, as provided by the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act.

and even if it turns out that it was your fault for shorting a wire or putting something back that may have cut a wire or something like that you may find it while undoing you work

Yeah, thanks. I'm have an appt. for a drop off Friday night and they are going to have it for all of Saturday. I'm going to start uninstalling stuff tonight...piece by piece. I already disconnected the capacitor for the tweeter...i needed to reconnect it anyway....I thought crimps would work, but it looks like solder is the right answer.

I did notice some other cars are having this issue from other threads.....most of them had to get new headunits...

Thanks for all of the help!

That's not a bad idea....maybe I should try that.

Sorry for being a noob yet again, but is there an easy way to check for blown car fuses?

Thanks!

Easiest way is with a test light... best way is with a voltmeter.

Each fuse has two small pieces of metal accessible on the top, one at each end. If you get voltage at each end, usually means fuse is OK. Test with car running.
