DEI/Viper 791vx
I'm thinking of buying the Viper 791vx. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this alarm or the 790. I know remote start is built in, but what about glass breaking mic? Do you like the alarm, or do you have other suggestions??

i dont have one but i install them.... they are pretty good alarms/remotestarts, the only sensor they come with is a shock sensor, you can add on a ton of sensors , look them up at directed.com. another choice you have is the clifford responder which is basically the same unit but has more features, alot more room to expand later on , tons of option security sensors if you want plus i think clifford has a better name/history( even tho DEI now owns clifford it is a different product with different engineering)

dont have one but install them as well. I personally went with the viper 550 w/ an fm pager. The 790 is a good alarm, the only drawbacks that I really see in it are that it only has 4 standard output channels, the two way paging feature really doesn't have that great of a range, and the remotes tend to break. The 791 has an upgraded remote from the 790 but with baisicly the same brain. So, overall I would say it's a good alarm the clifford could be a little better but in a cost benefit analysis I dont know if it would be worth it.

very true, but you can always do a channel expander if you are worried about having extra channels, also i would tend to think that MOST people wont use any more than 4 channels

Well I found a 791vx on ebay for $235 shipped, so I picked it up. I know I won't need more than 4 channels. I also picked up a bypass of ebay for $28 so all I need to do now is pay for install. I'm all about audio, but I HATE alarms! Might as well pay for it!

I just bought the 791 from Viper brand new for $200. I won't be able to get it installed until Febuary, but I have been reading other forums about it. Nothing bad to report, and everyone has been talking about how good it is. As for the range, the best I have heard has been about 200 yards or so. I thought it was supposed to reach 1 1/2 miles! I guess not. My brother inlaw is installing it and used to install alarms and what not for a living. That leads to my question....If my brother inlaw installs the alarm, does it void my warranty? If anyone has heard anything more let me know. Thanks everyone!

Oh well...warranty or not he is installing it for me.....Maybe he can vouch for the shop he used to work in! He is still very tight with the crew that owns the shop. He quit because he moved away from Houston, TX.. I can get some type of letter from his shop saying that they installed it and that should cover my azz! right??

i don't know how the laws are with DEI but i use to install Omega/Excalibur alarm systems(nothing to brag about) and before our company became a distributor of there alarm systems, we had to undergo a 2 week class and get certified. i'm pretty sure your brother is certified if he worked in a shop that installed DEI security systems.

A buddy of mine used to work at Earmark in Dallas and hooked me up with a buddy of his to do my install. He's charging between $150 and $200 depending on how many relays I need. Not a bad deal! Custom Sounds quoted $300.
I can't wait to have the thing in. Gotta love new alarms.
