questions about the Viper 791XV
questions about the Viper 791XV
for those who have the viper 791VX alarm, i have questions for you guys. what all comes in the package? and also what are good accessories that i can buy to go along with the alarm/remote start system? thanks ahead for opinions and comments.
I think 03tl-s is referring to things like shock sensors and glass breakage sensors and whatever other accessories there are.
I personally need to know where you guys buy your Viper Alarms from and were u get them installed. How much. I really want to get a viper alarm with remote start...
A friend recommended best buy since they will install for free? Is this ture, and does best buy do a good job. Thanks For any answers.
Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Comes with the alarm brain, 1 remote, one shock sensor, one remote start "brain" box (whatever), lots of wires, valet switch, um.. can't think of any 'accessories'.
If you want a mic for the glass breakage thing, tilt sensor, or radar motion sensor then I think you'll have to get that extra.

actually one of my friends works at best buy. he bought me the alarm with his employee discount because best buy jacks up their prices like crazy. and then this car audio guy at best buy installed it for me under the table. it was like 170$ for the alarm itself, and 100 for the installation. but best buy sells the alarm unit itself for 400-500$!
Don't get the 791. For another $50 you can get the Viper 5900 which has all the same exact features of the 791 but the 5900 has the new SST technology that lets your transmitter have a 1 mile range instead of a 1/4 mile range that the 791 has. I have the 5900 and very happy with it. I also attatched the 516L Vocalarm Recordable Voice as an add-on. The car talks every time you lock it, unlock it, or when the alarm goes off and you can even record your own voice and make the car say anything you want it to say. Neat feauture.
I have the 791 and its pretty good. remote start, shock sensor, etc etc. I would recommend it, but tis a bit pricey, especially if you want to have it installed. i installed it myself, so it was just 200. also, good luck finding a shop who knows what they are doing to install it if they dont sell it. Viper refuses to give help to people who are not authorized DEI dealers, which is why best buy gets most of DEI's business.
im looking into that 5900 now, lol

yea if it's only $50 more for the 5900, i might as well get that instead of the 791. i also know someone that works at bestbuy and can get an employee discount. knowing people like that really helps out alot with the pricing.
Bambo2888, was the installation hard and how did you find directions to install it?

I Have the clifford which is the same thing and it works well and the range on the remote start is great as long as it has a clear signal, i could get it for $400 installed here in NY so dont know where u from so , i had mine installed at Best Buy bout 3 years ago and they did a great job on it but the guy really took his time so i guess it depends on the actaul installer and how much time he takes doing it. I belive i paid about $ 575 with install but thiswas when the Clifford first came out so i am sure the price has drooped since then.
i got both the viper 791 vx and clifford matrix 3.5 for 220 installed. (two different cars). you'll also need a key bypass for the remote start. i replaced my shock sensor with motion sensors cuz the shock sensors didn't work too well for me. unless someone on here can tell me where is the best place to mount your shock senor to be most sensitive all around the car. try to stay in the 250 range installed and you'll be ok.

also, try zip tying the shock sensor to the steering column under the dash. that column is not only sturdy, but all vibrations on the outside panels of the car seem to hit it perfectly.
I just had that alarm / remote starter installed. A friend who works at Best Buy bought it for me along with the installation under employee discount - my bday present. $200 for the system and around $145 for the installation. That did not include the bypass, which is about $50 without the employee discount. Best Buy normally charges $500 for the unit with installation - not including the transponder bypass. If you get it done at Best Buy, make sure they know what their doing. I have to take my car back on Thursday, because they jacked it up - the wiring to the hood sensor was cut (so my alarm goes off when I remotely start the car), the wiring is drooping from below the glove compartment, and so on.

hey thanx, i'm gonna try that. the motion sensor works great but sometimes it gets annoying when it alerts everytime someone walks by. if you're here in houston i can still get either of those alarm for you + installation for 250. for those outside of houston... sorry... =[ they're there, you just gotta find them.
