A couple questions????

Last week I got a few new things installed... I got a Alpine IVA-D300 and a Directed Electronics SIR-ALP1 Sirius Tuner along with a Alpine CHA-S624 that I previously had. Overall I'm pretty happy with the equipment and love that fact that I can now play MP3's along w/ CDR and R/W b/c that was a no no before with the factory system. Now I just have a few questions that I was wondering could anyone help me with. The first one is with the Sirius tuner I'm noticing that it isnt as high of quality that I thought it would be with it being straight thru the radio and not rf modulated, is there any way this can be boosted is there a seperate control for the volume of the sirius radio. The second thing is I cant keep presets on the sirius part only, everything else stays, like the CD title thru the changer and the presets on FM but when I turn the car off I lose them on the Sirius radio.
And my last question why does it sound so bad thru the factory speakers and what happened to my factory sub..... Where's the bass???

Oh yeah and there was another thing... is anyone experiencing the altenator whine (or whatever it is). Its that high pitch noise that i can hear thru my speakers during acceleration. But the strange thing is its only a probaly thru the Sirius tuner. What is it and where is it coming from....When it was just the monitor and changer it was fine but once i added the Sirius tuner it introduced the noise. Any help would be appreciated...

OK, we don't know what kind of car you have...

We also don't know what else you have for equipment. Your problem sounds like bad installation, but we can't help without that other info.

I've forwarded your comment to a tech support person on that Sirius piece so we can see if they know something, but you still need to define what you ahave, thanks.

BTW, we all fixed our engine noise, it's just you.

I have a '99 3.2TL and as far as other equipment goes besides my Viper alarm everything is bone stock. And like I said with the engine noise it's only coming thru when the Sirius is on, so I'm thinking its either with the grounding of the tuner or its coming in thru the atenna (if thats possible).

Blue- you have an early version of the Sir-Alp1 that has a software flaw. The flaw wouldn't allow you to save presets. Get it swaped out for a new unit.

engine noise comes from a lack of bad grounding. find your ground to your stereo, amp, etc. and clear it of paint, debris, all of that (or just have it fixed) and i'm betting that annoying noise will go bye bye.

Contact the manufacturer first so you can tell if their new stock has the same problem. You don't want to find out their entire stock is bad...

No need to check with manufacturer, they found the software problems and already have mande the correction. All the product in the field now should be the new version. A blue dot on the package will indicate the corrected product.

If all else fails on the noise problem, use a ground loop isolator. Buy it at a car stereo shop, because the ones at Radio Shack don't have the best sound quality. (I know from direct listening experience). A GLI isn't something you really want to use, but it's an easy fix if you can't find the ground problem. (When I was upgrading and keeping my OEM headunit I found no way around using one).
