components in door

Ok, so I got my Focal components the other day and I managed to cram the 6 1/2 into the door the only problem is that it rattles like crazy. What is the best way to stop this?

What rattles? The door panel itself? The speaker, what?

I think Streetz told me once stuffing it w/ foam or something will stop rattles in most cases.

Hey Woodsdaddy, were your Focals a perfect fit in the stock locations? Or did you have to do any modifying? I wanna know because I'm wanting some new components but want the simplest installation possible. Also, where did you have the crossovers mounted?

It was not even close to a perfect fit. I mounted the crossover in the map pocket in the door. You can barely see the top of it, You might want to think about putting it someplace different because it also rattles a little.

pop the trunk and mount all the crossover ish there. i mean if it can fit 2-3 dead bodies comfortably, then it should be able to fit some stuff that wasn't meant for the cabin.

Ok so here is a little update. I mounted the crossover inside the door on a pad of foam. Then I took out that black box on the inside of the door that is screwed to the door panel. This worked great, it only rattled when I listen to rap. I set the crossover on my headunit to 50hz. So now we have no rattles(on the doors) and hella mid-bass. Now I have to try to find what is rattling in the trunk.

I know the Focals have a pretty deep mounting depth. May I ask how you got them to fit in the stock locations? Did you have to do any modifications to the doors, etc?

I had to cut out the material behind the grill, because of this I had to screw the grills on from the back. Not that big of a deal considering it is a pain in the ___ to get the stock speakers out without taking the door panel off. I used the stock mounting plates and made a spacer for it to take up the extra room. That was about it, then came the foam.
