Smile Completed Non-Navi to Navi Conversion

So, after a week of planning during my free time and a long day of installation, my 2000 non-navi TL has a fully functional, factory navigation system! Its AWESOME, and such a great deal (cost in DIY.) I just finished a DIY, but since it has so many pictures, I had to make an external PDF and put it on my webspace. Of course, the link is here. It's also a pretty fun project, and is, by far, the cheapest full-featured navigation system (of course, if you know how to use eBay.) All questions should be answered in the PDF.

Wow, that's awsome, dude!

Quick question:
Are you experienced in this kind of mods? Have you done something like this before?

Never. I installed an aftermarket head unit in an Eagle talon once.

And thanks for the compliments guys.

Excellent work, both the install and the documentation.

But you probably should mention the amount of prep time seperately from the amount of time in the car on Saturday...: )

You would be the second person I've heard of to accomplish this daunting task (albeit on a different car, but nonetheless...). Congrats.

Would the DIY be the same for the 01-03 CL/TL's.

Or is it just the hard drive that's different?

As stated on the first page of the DIY, this is the exact procedure for installing on any 1999-2003 TL or CL. I think a few of the parts are a little different, like that support bracket for the nav unit and the bracket for the antenna. But other than that, it's a step by step match.

If you have the knowledge in electronics, it's just a mater of getting the wiring connected correctly. I have all the required parts without wire harness (will make my own) for less than 1K. I will be doing my non-navi to navi conversion for the 04 TL in the comming weeks. I wish I could have getting the navi TL, but it wasn't available at that time and I don't have the patience to wait..so I accquired the non-navi one because I know I can get a navi installed later on.

Diagram

I haven't been checking up on the boards for a while, so if you've sent me a PM in the last 6 months, sorry for not responding. Too many people are asking for the schematic, and while it was nice of the few that gave donations for all the work saved with the diagram, I just don't have the time to email the thing 2 or 3 times a day. Here is a link to the file. Hope this helps a bit.

Thumbs up Wow!

This is awesome! You may have answered my question about what I'm going to do with my '03 CL-s. Want to replace radio, but wasn't sure if I wanted Navi or not. Thanks for the hard work and incredible docs!
