CLS Speaker depth

I've searched for quite a while and can't seem to find the answer to this question. What is the mounting depth of the door speakers? I have a set of Alpine Type X 6.5" comps I'd like to install; they are 2.75" deep, which is quite a bit. How thick of an MDF ring can I use and still have the door liner go back on without a problem. Also, I plan on sound deadening the doors so that will also take away a little room.

No I did not, but what did happen was the Type X mids fit perfectly in the factory hole in the door. There was no fabrication or cutting needed. I was shocked! Hopefully the same will happen with your install.

Another interesting detail is there's a "pocket" in the doors that the crossovers fit into as well. The installer said he had never seen anything like it. The pocket was formed in the factory by Acura and it must have been for spacing purposes as nothing else went inside it.

Thanks for the follow up. That helps me out a ton. I just picked up the CL-S about a month ago. It is pretty hard to find specs and kits for the stereo, man. No double din kits, the HU is a bitch to replace, the Bose system.

If you don't mind I have another question. What about the HU? Can it be wired in with the harness or do you have to run new speaker wires to bypass the Bose amp/eq?

Thanks.

You can fit almost any speaker in there as far as depth goes - as long as you don't mind kicking out the back of the speaker bracket (what i did). Another thing you need to worry about is the width of the speaker housing (the metal piece that the magnet connects to). Ive found that gets in the way more than mounting depth.

Thanks a lot for your input, Eski. Did you switch out your head unit as well?

Yes, that's exactly the case. If the basket is too wide some metal cutting will be necessary, but the depth shouldn't be an issue.

As for the HU, Metra makes a double-din kit to install a single din HU. http://www.metraonline.com/vehicleguide.aspx
The model # is 99-7868. My installer took the Bose (blows) system out so I can't help you with that.
