Clippin out:

Alright, i'm not exactly the biggest audiophile. Wish I knew more about it, just havent gotten there yet. But right now i have a small little system kickin. I have a power acoustik 600w amp, and two 10" kenwood subs with a power acoustik 2 farad cap. my speakers are all stock bose that need replaced and i have a pioneer headunit. Im not sure what it is, but sometimes my subs like to clip out. I'm pretty sure their max watts a piece are 300 maybe 400 so im assuming maybe my amp doesnt have as much wattage as it needs. I heard this happens more when its hot out because of all the heat in the trunk? but even if thats true, thats not the only time it happens. i know everything i wrote is pretty vague, but if anyone has any help, id take it greatly.

thanks.

Highly doubt that amp is putting out anything close to 600w... I doubt its even CEA compliant. Your amp obviously isn't putting out enough power.... for now turn down the gain and don't crank it up so loud. This happened recently, it was pretty funny and stupid. A random customer who, hopefully didn't know any better, cranked up the gain on an amp and fried the voice coil on an L5. I swear you could kick the sub in the cone and the cone wouldn't even budge.... it was like a turtle shell afterwards.

And to be brutally honest while I don't ever claim to actually be an audiophile, I doubt that Kenwood subs or Power Acoustik amps are on any audiophile's list of must-haves.

I never said i was an audiophile, i wish i had the money to drop on the perfect system but right now thats not feasible. my stuff is no where near anything and audiophile would ever want. But its what i got for now so im going to work with it. And which one is the gain? like what does it say cause im pretty sure mine doesnt say gain or anything on it. sorry, im not the best with info on audio. thanks for all the help!

its not the best system but at least its not pyle. id say the amp just doesnt have the wattage to really pound the subs and youve turned something way up. let me guess when you first get in the car it pounds and then eventually it starts to not be so loud or sound like crap. theyre should be either 2 knobs or two things that look like plastic flathead screws. they may say crossover, or gain or something like that. turn the crossover almost all the way down. and dont turn the other knob the gain or the bass knob or whatever it is labeled past halfway. if youre turning your headunit or amps past 3/4 of the way up your asking to blow up components due to heat or distortion. in your case distortion. heat malfunctions come from too much wattage and distortion comes from amplifier clipping and bad sounding amps. could go on for pages but its kinda boring. any pictures of the amp or additional info would help but most likely that is your problem.

well i have it set so on my hu the subs are at zero and pounds how i want it. I may have the gain turned up too much. Ill take a pic of it tomorrow if i remember and post it. its an older setup, still kickin though. and i already blew one of my 6x9's to a degree. it rattles on songs with bass, sounds fine on other songs. i need new ones.

check if you have enough current reaching your amp from your battery and also check your subs ohms to see if you blew them
