Changer question....

I've got a Bose single CD player, and would like to add a changer to it.

Anyone installed a changer that hooks up to the factory bose HU using the antenna? (the one you have to tune a certain channel to for it to work).

I installed one on my old RX7 with no problems, and was wondering/hopeing if the antenna setup is like most other radios to make adding a changer as easy as possible.

Thanks.

Yes the modulated (FM antenna) CD changers can be used in your car, but I dont recomend it because there is an easier and much better sounding alternative. Your Acura CD player has CD Changer controls built in, so certain changers can just plug into the back of the deck. You can find an Acura changer, but thats the expensive way to go.

Alpine changers work with your existing head unit, and sound better than the Acura changer, plus they are cheaper. There is an adapter needed, which run about $30 to make the Alpine changer ($270) work. This is the way to go, you get better sound quality for about the same price, plus the Alpine changer is controlled directly from the buttons on the Acura CD player. Email me if you have any further questions.

There is also a way to re-wire the plug on the changer cord, to avoid having to buy the $30 adapter, if you would like directions on how to go about this email me.

Sumkid suggested the Alpine CHM-S620. I installed it last weekend (in my glovebox) and it works great. You just have to buy the adapter or convert the pins in the DIN wire to hook the Alpine to the Bose.

Hey Woodek, what was the adapter part number/name that you used ? And how does your installation look ? I wantta install an MP3 player into the glove compartment. And with this type of installation, would you still be able to switch to the stock cd changer ?? or should i say, how do you switch to the new cd changer ??

Thanks for the info

Sleek.....

I bought the adapter for the Bose head unit to Alpine changer, at Circuit City for $30.00. I thought it was going to be just an adapter style fitting. It was actually a wire about 14 inches long, with the Bose fitting on one end and the Alpine on the other. Turns out, that was all I needed. I didn't use the 10 foot cord that came with the player.

There was a plug in the back of the stock head unit (on the right side) so I just plugged in the adapter, and ran the line to the area behind the glove box, and mounted the changer in there (with a little modification). Mounted nice and solid, and looks great. The only issue I have with locating it in the glove box, is that you can hear the changer when it's switching CD's. Not too loud, but you can hear it. I love being able to change CD's in the changer while driving!

I believe that the plug in the back of the stock head unit is for a changer only. I don't believe anything else could be controlled by the Stock unit, but I could be wrong.

The stock unit operates the aftermarket changer like it would a stock changer (I assume) . The 6 preset station buttons operate the 6 CD's when you are in CD mode.

If you figure how to add a MP3 player to the stock unit, with the changer added, Let me know! I'd love a MP3 player in my car. (I then wouldn't need the changer).

I would go with the Alpine CHM-S634 that plays MP3's also. To hook up to the stock Bose HU, you'll need:

Alpine CD MP3 Changer CHA S-634
Alpine Male Ai-Net to female M-Bus adapter KCA-130B
BlitzSafe adapter - HON/ALP DMX V.1 or Periperal - HONIL

The Blitzsafe plugs into the back of the HU. KCA-130B plugs into the Blitzsafe. KCA-130B plugs into the Changer and you're done. The changer is controlled by the HU. Hitting the CD button alternates between the single CD and the changer. Works great. We've got it in our 99 TL-P.

Also, If you don't have Navi, you can go to the dealer and buy the Navi bracket and mount the changer in the trunk easily in the Navi location for around $20. Cables are long enough.

i was lookin at a JVC cd changer that hold 12 cds and plays mp3s ... im gettin it for the mp3 playing ability ... and 12 cds ... so that is an average of about 1200 songs in that player ... not bad ... but do you think it will be more work cuz i am getting a JVC?? and i was gunna put mine in the glovebox ... but 12 cd changer is a tad bit bigger than a 6 disc ... so it might have to go somewhere else ... any other ideas of where?? i had one in my civic in the trunk ... but it was pain to have to change but i guess with this mp3 player i wont really need to change cds much at all ... so maybe it would be a good place to put it ... any ideas or suggestions??

Not too complicated. Tough part was reaching behind the deck to plug in the adapter into the HU. From there, just route the cables to wherever you're locating the changer. No power to hook up because the HU feeds the changer.

Did you have to disconnect your HU to do it?

I was able to go in from the passenger side. Someone with small hands will have an advantage. It plugs into the right side of the back the headunit. You DO NOT have to take the headunit out to plug it in. It may take you a while to work your fingers aroung to get it in just be patient.

I tried getting to the back of the HU but jus could not feel the HU. Believe me, my hands are very thin. i also read somewhere that some 1998 CLs came with a cable attached to the changer of the HU and can be located somewhere in the trunk, any ideas/suggestions? please reply asap.

one more thing, can i hook a Delphi XM Roady to the OEM unit? how? the one i am getting Includes Delphi XM Roady™ Receiver, Micro-Antenna, Cassette Adaptor, 12V Power Adaptor, Universal Mounting Bracket, and FM modulator.

thanks
