I dun think the brand matters. It just how u burn them(the format). i used all brands and its works fine. Just like SL1200MK4 said, make sure it works for home cd players and then try it on ur TL. If it works for home cd, there's no reason y it doesnt for the car.

Yeah don't worry about the brand of CD-R's. But try burning them at a slower speed, like 4x. It's worked for others with the same problem.
Good luck!

Using the same MP3's.. my 48X CD burner refuses to make music CD's that my 02 can read... When I burn them in my DVD-+WR they work perfectly fine. It could be your drive.

On my moms 99TL I have the problem. It will read the cd but takes a long time to read it, then if you want to change track it takes a good minute to find it. Any ideas? Slower speeds or what?

I have used memorex & tdk in my '01 CL-S & '03 TL-P w/o any problems. What speed are you recording at? Try a slower speed, maybe 16?. I've heard people having trouble with cd-r's recorded at high speed (not playing, slow track finding, etc).

This is the exact same problem that happens on my 01. Exactly but maybe a couple of minutes to find the track. I used the old memorex but now theres another memorex out.(the cd just looks different thats all, im guessin) i have been usin my Vaio to burn cds at 8x. i tried using some different types of cdrs and memorex(the old one) works best. So maybe Sony cdrs are good? what about TDK or Fuji? anyone use thosse brands?

thanks all

I use the old TDK ones that are blue/greenish on the bottom and they work fine. But when I try the new TDK ones that are gold, my deck will only read up to track 10 then stop playing. I also tested burning at max and 24x on both color disks, and only the blue/greenish one plays the whole cd.

at wut speed did you burn them...? and what's the make & model of your CD-RW or DVD-RW?

for audio CD, not all drives and handle audio at max speed. Some drives, the firmware will limit your drive @ 24 when burning audio, some don't... but I never burn them higher than... 24x, no matter how fast the drive is... mostly I burn them at 12x 16x...

I hope everything works out for you... just remember that you can burn at 48x or 52x doesn't always means that you should...

I've burned CDs at different speeds, used different brand CDs, and they play on my home audio, but not in the car. Also, I've cleaned the lens in the car, still doesn't work. What is odd is that when I bought TDK in a 10 pack, all those CDs worked fine in my car. When I bought them in a 30 pack, none of them work in the car. I have a '00 TL. So I have ruled out burn speed, CD brand, and burner hardware/software. Any other theories?

I think the problem is just our Cd player's lense. I have 99TL and it played some CD-R's at 4x. It seemed to play them when it wanted to. Some days it would read the CD just fine and other days it took minutes before it would read it ( same CD). I bought a 00TL headunit off of Ebay and it plays most CD-R's just fine. Recently I found that Fujifilm at 48X plays just fine. A friend of my has a HP PC and it really does not matter what brand of CD-R's she uses, they all play fine in my car. So, I think that since our 99-00 lenses are not trully compatible and up-graded to read all CD-R's, it is a combination of ( CD-R brand, speeed, Drive and software).....but I may be wrong, just my $.02

I found a solution for this.... I was so unbelievebly pissed off that my player wouldn't play my burned CD's on my 99, so I went out shopping for a CD changer. Circuit City and Hifi Buys were over $400, so I decided to try other options. Heres the 2 things to do to make CD's work on 99s, or at least mine:

CD Brand: Maxwell CD-R Pro (burns up to 40X)
Burn Speed: 32X

I only found a pack of 5, for $4.97 at Wally World, but it works really well. All my memorex will not play. Sometimes I can play them, but 95% of the time I cant. These Maxwell Pros work excellent on my player. Try these and see what happens. I'm relieved. I had 2 options for things for my car for x-mas, a body kit, or a changer. Now I can get the body kit!!!!!

Hey -- I had an issue with burned CDs. I don't know if anyone else suggested this but DO NOT burn beyond 74 minutes (650 MB?) worth of music.

From what someone told me, the 700MB / 80 minute discs are the same as the 650 MB discs -- they somehow use some screwed up compression scheme to squeeze in the extra space. I tried to fill up a disc with 80 minutes of music and it would work ... up to a certain point and then I would get the notorious flashing 'ErEl' error on the stock Bose system.

Do yourself a favor (regardless of CD-R brand) and burn less than 74 minutes of music and try again. I have never had any problems since then. (BTW, I have a Yamaha 16/4/4 SCSI burner using EZ-CD creator 5 on Win98SE)

I have the same observation. 700Mb disc won't work on the Bose unit. My gf burns me 700Mb and my radio won't play, while her Accord plays fine. Just stick with 65 mins and you should be fine.

I have no problem with 80min. CDs... not at all actually...

those are some cheap ass CD-Rs, too... maybe because my burner is a Plextor? I am not sure, but maybe Plextor is better... in a way...

I found you need Imation discs to use burned CDRs in a 99 TL.

You can't use th 700MB /80min discs you MUST use the 650MB /74min discs. Unfortunatly it gets harder and harder to find 74 min discs in the stores. Most stores have switched to the 80 min discs

They will take forever to play also if you burn them faster than 8 or 12X.

BTW nothings better than 1X recording reliability

lol you think sony is a good brand... hehehe

You're misinformed anyhoo.. the better brands are listed on CDRinfo.com, and I generally try to buy the no-namers. Most CDRs are made by a handful of companies and then the Sony or whatever stickers are stamped onto them. Better to find the ones with the better dyes in them because they will last you longer and play cleaner in your car.

Though lately I just bought a pack of Memorex... didn't have time to wait for shipping off the net.

Forgot to say that, I am totally positive that 80min. CD-R will work on our car. At least on my 02 Tl, no problem at all..

tired different brands, too all worked fine... even no name brands

*edit* from my previous post:

I've used 80 min CD-Rs in my car just fine. I don't go beyond the 74-minute limit... I think that's what may be the problem some are experiencing. Or perhaps this burned CD issue could be a problem like the transmissions??? (ie only a small percentage of people can't use burned CD-Rs in the stock CD-player)

j/k

yep, just tested my theory on both computers w/ different burners.... heres what works:

CD: Maxell CD-R Pro, is up to 40X, 700mb, 80mins

Burn Speed: XP Users, goto windows media player, click on tools, then options, then click the devices tab. Choose your CD-Burner drive, and click properties. then click on recording tab, and at the bottom, you will see a pull down menu, the fastest speed will say "fastest" Choose the one below that. For me it is either 32, on one comp, or 16 on the one I regularly use. Both of them work. Then hit apply, ok... whatever. That should do the trick

You can pick up the CD's in a 5 pack at wal-mart or a 10 pack at best-buy, and thats the only place I've been to look for them. Works like a regular bought CD... love it!

The issue is the tuning of the laser in the stock Bose unit. I believe it was intentionally designed to not work with CDRs. That said, the CDRs that will work best are the CDRs with a high contrast dye. Look for the blue-green surface and you should have better luck.

I use PNY cd-r and Easy Creator 5 software. It works fine never had a problem. Just don't put labels on it. The labels make the cd to thick and it wont eject properly.
