CD Err

I have a non-nav 6 disc system and it has been great for the past 2 years till I noticed that when switching disc, the changer sounded very slugish. I thought nothing of it at first, until I trired to eject the disc and the system froze up on me. The display showed "CD ERR", has anyone ever encountered this before? I turned off the radio then turned it back on and was able to eject two of my CD's out. Then the head unit would sporadically start to switch between AM FM and CD for a couple of seconds then display the "CD ERR". Car is out of warranty, so are there any suggestions of getting this fixed? Thanks AcuraZine

Unfortunately, the head unit is prone to problems... I am on my second CLS and have had problems with both of them. The first one would lock up with "Error E1". Even took it to the dealer and they could not identify what was causing the problem and offered to replace the unit for $200. I didn't bother as it seemed to always clear after a day or so. There are some "tricks" to resetting posted on various threads ranging from whacking the side of the unit to powering up while holding the eject and load buttons. I found the latter worked sometimes.

The problem with my latest HU is that it will not eject at all... plays and changes CDs fine but will not let me load new CDs. I finally got tired of the same 6 so I bought another unit from a member who upgraded.

So... sadly there is no solution other than replacement. Another "known" Acura problem that they refuse to acknowledge.

Thanks goredcar for actually responding to my post, I did take it in to the dealer and they were charging $1500 to replace it due to mechanical issues. Just sucks that I have 4 CD's stuck in there, but I still have my IPOD to play my tunes. Been browsing around ebay for a replacement HU

Also check the black market... do a search... there were at least 2 HUs for sale for around $125... I bought one of them.

It really pisses me off that a car of this calibre has a crappy CD changer, that Acura knows about, but will not fix.

I'm seeing the same problem with my 04 CD changer... - out of warranty by 1000 miles!. I am in process of trying to get Acura national and regional representatives to work something out with me - the initial estimate of $615 to pull the changer/HU & ship it off for repair is just incredible to me.

Acura used to have an "exchange" program... I found out about this not thru a dealer, but an independent shop that I go to now. For $200 (in Canada) they will pull the HU, have it faixed and re-install. It can take several weeks though, so in the meantime you will have no music.
