The case of the Mysterious Vehicle Speed Sensor Wire

I just got back from the Stereo shop and they were not able to locate the vehicle speed sensor aka VSS wire.

As noted in Elduderino's sticky:

| SPEED SENSE|blue/white | |ECM/PCM *3 |

*3 The ECM/PCM is on the front of the transmission tunnel. The connectors
are on the passenger side. The VSS wire is in the white 31 pin connector E,
pin 26.

I also confirmed Elduderino's post by talking to a guy at GoodGuys who looked up the info on Directwire.com. Directwire is used by any installers as reference, when they are looking for certain wires in a car.

The installer looked for it in the location specified, but did not see it there. He also called some other techs and they did not know where it is in the TSX either.

Has anyone had any luck locating this wire?

Hey Elduderino,

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate you looking for it. Everyone had the exact same info as you. I'm beginning to wonder if the installer was not looking in the right spot. This is the 2nd time I brought the car in to get the wiring finished up, so I think he was honestly trying all he could to locate the wire. He is an experienced installer with 18 years experience, so I have some confidence in him. They said they will hook it up when they find out where the wire is.

Thanks!!

One of the problems for installers looking for this wire is that, like a tach wire for remote start, they can't test for it. These wires carry square waves of varying frequency depending on vehicle speed (or on RPM) and installers rarely have oscilloscopes to verify that a wire is indeed the correct one.

Almost everything else in the Helm manual has been right, and my suspicion is that even if the wire color is wrong, the pin location is NOT. If they are finding the plug they should be able to find the wire. If they call Clifford/Directed tech support they should be able to get someone to help them who's looking at the pics of the connector (each connector has a photo in the Helm Electrical T-shooting guide).

Worst case, we'll have them call ME. : )

We all run the Pioneer n1 so we need to hook up to the VSS wire for our Navigation system and our performance guages.
