you can get a high level in/low level output connector from any stereo shop. Thats the best way to do it. This is obviously not the greatest way to have subs, because you will have no direct sub control but is really the only option.
Get a good one, invest into a $40-$50 one otherwise you will get engine noise. Get a Peripheral sven2. What it does is you tap the two rear speaker signals both negative and positive speaker wires and it uses that signal to produce signals to come out of the other end of this converter which is rca output, then you can plug that directly into the amplifier. As well, you will need to find a remote wire off the deck, ignition wire will do fine, that will turn the amp on and off when the car or deck is on as well. Otherwise drainage to the amp will happen.
But as well, some 2 channel amps come with built in High level input(high level input is speaker level) low level input is RCA signal.
BUT These built into the amps usually don't work very well. I have had bad experience with them, with engine whining and distortion and constant buzzing noise.
Even the good amps with high level input are usually crap. So thats why I advise people strongly to buy an external one, AND A GOOD ONE. I've had problems with Alpine ones, Kicker, Rockford. I've spoke to all those reps and they said, well its a cost effective issue, they don't really want consumers using it. Which is entirely stupid
A PERIPHERAL brand is a good one to use.
Keep in mind, doing it this way you have no control of your sub. Even if you buy an amp that has a Sub Boost level adjuster control, that doesn't control your sub entirely, it just adds more bass, but truely uncontrollable. So the louder you turn on the volume the louder the sub, if you turn down the volume, you may not even hear the sub at all. It fluctuates with the volume control.

thanks for all the help everyone. in your honest opinion do you think it is worth it to even do all this with not much control of the subs?? or do you think i should just invest in another head unit so the sound is much better quality(w/no control of subs and all-not much quality-right?)?? if so, has anyone done the installation themselves before?? i normally do my own audio work but im sketchy w/my CL-S because its so freakin' nice--is there any issues i will run in to taking out the stock 6 disc cd player?? anything i should know?? once again-thanks everyone-

your right..i dont want to be that ghetto, loud ass, rattling sound, i want it to sound nice-but loud...thanks for the advice, maybe i will just hook up one 12 for now.

yea, i probably will just put one 12 in then......in the future i will probably switch to a different head unit though...

how about with aftermarket speakers and amp along with 2 subs w/ 1600 watt amp with stock HU. what do u guys think? should the HU still be changed to get the best sound? could i control the bass if i completly by pass the amp?

jax i hate teh redsox!!!!
01clsblackUOP, your first step should be get a new head unit, stock speakers arent that bad, especially if your head unit has a built in crossover. I couldnt begin to tell you the difference in sound from OEM headunit to any aftermarket. IF you do get a head unit just make sure it has Subwoofer (4 volt) preouts. Then you are set for anymore aftermarket additions without having to hook it all up ghetto...definately skip the stock speakers for now and get a head unit.
I have my subs hooked up to my stock HU...at first the guy that installed it said that everytime I turn on the car that I will get a short feedback because the stock HU does not have the remote or something like that. But then the next day I went out and bought a switch so I have control of the subs on whether I can turn the subs on or off and do not get any feedback everytime I turn on the car.
I think you should get 10s because I have 2 12s audiobahn and 800 watt audiobahn and the amp are set at halfway and is still too much.

you can always patch into the remote wire of the stock amp... this is what i did to get around the surge.. there is a wire diagram on here somewhere that tells you what wire it is. if you can find it let me know and i will see if i still have it.... i am surprised the install guy couldnt do that.
