Basslink install question

I am buying everyone sandwiches if you humor me. Please don’t tell me to search, I imagine the answer is out there, but I didn’t find it through my initial search, so if this question has been answered 100 times already, I would appreciate a hyperlink or direct answer.

My wife picked me up a Basslink (God bless her), and I am not sure what to do with it. I have read on here that I can tap directly into the 6X9s, or I can drop $80 and get some interface from the back of the deck to support subwoofers.

For the basslink specifically, will I notice a difference if I spend the $80 if I leave everything else stock? What is your suggestion?

Your input is greatly appreciated.

I assume that the Basslink has "speaker level" or "high level" inputs? If so, use 'em. And let us know...

Yeah, it has them, but I didn't know if there would be a material sound quality difference if I went that route - wouldn't be able to tell either by just hooking it up to the rear speakers as I have no idea how the other way would sound.

Just get a LOC and tap it to one of your speaker.
LOC = Line Output Converter = converts speaker cable to RCA. Also you will need Amp Kit with at least 8G wire. If you are planning to do major audio install in the future, I suggest get 2G wire.
Some pictures in 3G:

Good luck!

There's no need for a LOC. The Basslink has it's own speaker level inputs. It even comes with the cables you need, & they are labeled. Just tap into the left & right rear speakers, either at the speakers or at the stock amp. Run power & ground & your done. Set the basslink to auto on.
No need for a turn on lead cause it will get the signal from the speakers you tapped into.

Many thanks

Thanks very much for the advice. I guess I'm gonna tap into the rear speakers. As for grounding the basslink do you guys have a recommendation of where to do it? (perhaps even a picture?)

Thanks again

Depends on what car. On the CLS there's the bolt on the fuel tank access cover.
Really any good metal ground point will do. Just make sure to scratch off the paint of where your grounding.

Thanks I was worried I would be doing myself a disservice by taking the lazy way out and tapping into the rear 6x9s.

Fuzzy: Where abouts is this bolt located ina 2001 cl-s? I am a little green when it comes to this car. Do you know where the clips are located on the side walls in the trunk? I would ideally like to feed the wires behind those pannels but I want to make sure they'll go back after the wires are run.

Foot3ch: How did you run the bass control know to the front and what was involved?

Sorry for my NEWBNESS guys but I really appreciate your help thus far.

It's under the trunk floor. The clips just either pop off, twist off or screw off. It's not hard at all. There's a write up in the audio FAQ at the top of the forum. The pics are gone, but the details are still there.

The bass control runs like any cable to the front. Just snake it under the carpet & door sill & under the dash.
