Nice, I'm definitely going to do this project next if I'm not entirely broke from my audio install!!

Has anybody heard from Dom lately? I need to get a NavitoTV module or whatever they call them.

are the molex pins the best pins to use? i feel like part of my problem is that the pins aren't making a good connection with the dvd player socket. are there any other type of pins i can use? or does anyone know the exact pins that are supposed to work with this socket?

Instead of the using a female RCA end and wiring it up, couldn't I just use this http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...tId=2103848&cp from Radio Shack to connect to the 7 pin terminal? Forget that it's a male RCA. It won't matter for what I'm doing.

hehe this is totally off topic, but this:

i found out that this is a glitch..
if you try pressing dual without auto on... it wont turn on
however if you press ( in succssesion) auto - dual - windsheild defroster- windshield defroster... the dual light will turn back on without auto being activated

however.. this is a mistake... because dual being on without auto means absolutly nothing... the climate control is off...

annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnddd... back ON TOPIC:
i got my camera today, but Im waiting for finals to finish before i start installing

if you have Dom's unit and are using both inputs 1 and 2 on it, can you still do the DIY and make a connector? Basically i have a dvd on input 1, am putting a ipod video into input 2 (with a switch, not connected to reverse 12v), and do the DIY for backup cam, but not sure if this will work...

smaz, yep, there is no reason that won't work as long as you're clever with your wiring for the Dom's.

the only clever part would be to take the dom's reverse wire and wire it up to a switch (with 12v on the other contact), correct?

+12v, yeah. But, you can't use a 3-way rocker for the 2 sources, since the switch (red/black) does not use 12v. Make sure you measure it with a DMM and give it the right signal or you could hurt the Dom's.

FYI I just finished making this harness using this cable. It works like a charm. It was easier for me than making my own RCA end. It was only 6 bucks at radio shack. I didn't use a camera as my video source though. I'm using it to show my Zune display on my nav screen. (for album art and song info only. I'm not using it to watch videos while I drive. Simply ease of song navigation.)

The guys's at Radio Shack are pretty clueless for the most part. You need to know the part number that you want. Which pieces are you trying to find? The piece that I posted just above is what I used and it worked great!

Order it from Mouser.com. I ordered that and 10 pins, just in case I messed up on some. It was about $1.50 for the parts and about $6 for shipping. I got in on the 3rd day.

alright so I need some help from the A/V gurus here. Does anyone have any clue as to why my camera would be going in and out? It will work for a few seconds and the video will be clear as day...and then it will go back to a black screen. It has also worked for a few minutes, and then it does the same thing....what do I need to fix/adjust? I finally have some time to devote to this project this weekend so all help is appreciated!

Does the Dom's unit require it's own power source? If so, what does it tap into for it?

Thanks...

How many of you backup cam DIYers take off the camera before going through a car wash? Even at my local car wash (no brushes...all hands/towels) I can imagine the water spraying and soap would affect the cam.

Bueller? Also, do you guys screw it into the trunk lid, or do you just attach it w/double sided tape?

many will not recommend screwing it because it can cause rust. so your best bet is a super duper crazy strong tape

Any recommendations for tape? Reach recommended double sided foam tape.

I guess I could find stainless steel screws. But I'm sure non-permanent attachment is for the best. I could always sell the camera when I sell the car.

So I got the wendy's cam in the mail today, and I want to test it out before I go to work on a navi adapter. Can I just hook the black wire to the negative terminal of a 9volt battery, and the red positive wire to the positive terminal of the battery? Then I could just plug the rca cable into my Tv. Or do I need 12volt power only. If so, how can I test out the camera w/out connecting it to my car's electrical system?

Guys I need to purchase a long rca cable to go with my backup cam. What length worked best for you all? 3ft? 6ft? 12ft?

This thread is dead, but I'm still posting anyways. FYI, you can test out your cam by connecting it to a 9volt battery (make sure it's a new or fully charged 9volt though). Remember, black is negative and red is positive always.

I bought this 3m trim molding tape to hold my camera to the trunk lid:

I looks strong, but it doesn't seem to hold as super-strong as double sided foam tape. Do you guys know if this stuff is designed to hold up to vibrations/water? I thought it would be stronger since it's designed for automotive trim. Anyone think this will work alright for my camera? Do you recommend something else?
