AVINCAR Legacy

Most of you veterans will remember Ken Ward from AVINCAR in Portland, OR.. He hasn't been a vendor here in many years but his threads and awesome work is talked about almost every day.

I attended a regional training yesterday held by Custom Plus Distributing. There were many reps from Rockford, Jensen, Sony, Scocshe, Clarion and DEI. Directed Electronics is always my favorite group. Guess who was schooling us on all the new Viper/Clifford/Python toys. Mr. Ken Ward of course! It was great to bullshit with him and we have a plan to combine forces as far as offering credible solutions to AZ members.

I would love to hear comments about what you might like to see offered here along the lines of Car Audio. Please keep this constructive and realistic. If you act dumb I will delete your ish.

Thanks guys.

Personally, I would like to see and audio set up for an 01-06 MDX where the rear storage compartment behind the third row is utilized.

Something instead of the stand-a-lone Bose subwoofer in the rear that rattles to no end no matter what you do.

I wanna see a package deal again for upgrading the gen1 TSX speakers using the stock head and amp. I think Ken had one a couple of years ago that upgraded stock speakers alone.

I think the gen 1 TSX population is at the point where an upgrade like this would do you well and us well. The Gen 1 TSX is at the point where people are looking to do little upgrades here and there to keep our interest in the car going. This would be a nice one.

The MDX - I hear that man. I installed an AVIC-D3 in a 2002 MDX a few months back. The OEM sub was horrible I had to turn it down to stop the madness. I'll see what I can get done about that. Do you have an MDX?

The Gen1 TSX - I do remember a TSX package a few years back. I'll talk with Ken about it. He has all the specs on that setup. I'll see if we can build a package using current model speakers.

Thank you for the input guys.

2nd this suggestion. There are tons of threads on the forum from people requesting the now unavailable drop in speaker upgrade for the 1st gen TSX. Myself included. We'd all love to see another version (upgrade even!) of that speaker package maybe even with a new amp/wiring adapter like mercman sells. You two will have many many eager customers. It's just a hassle trying to figure out which tweeters fit in the stock holes and making our own adapters for the door speakers. If you make a preorder list, I'd be one of the first people on it.

I third that suggestion. I would love to see this. I'm checking out numbers on an Infinity set up right now.

I didn't see the original group buy for this, but did it include the speaker wiring adapters? Could those be included for this buy?

I have a 2004 MDX Touring with the factory DVD system, and I agree that the rear sub is horrible. It just doesn't fit any musical type or tone. Damn Bose audio...

Absolutely. Speaker adapters would make this a very easy install.

Although a lot of you guys can install things with no problem I always encourage professional installation. It's rare that and car audio product just drops right into place these days. A good installer will have all the right tools necessary to get the job done correctly.

BOSE offers some amazing amps and speakers in both car and home audio. I think Honda/Acura went the cheap route and paid as little as possible.

The factory installed BOSE systems in GM cars and trucks sound very good. Maybe that's why GM is broke.

Great thread.

Any other solutions for the 2nd Gen CL?

Not sure what...maybe a box that runs the rear of the trunk...that looks OEM?

AVINCAR used to offer an audio set up for the CL, where the speakers were upgraded while using the stock head unit. I have the speaker upgrade in my CLS now for at least 3 years I think, and the sound quality is great with the stock head unit, but even better with an after market headunit, or amp.

I think the focus on audio upgrades should be on:

01 and Up MDX
04 and Up TL's
05 and Up RL's
04 and Up TSX

Like this?

Anyone interested in purchasing the last three AVINCAR TSX kits? Brand new in box with install instructions. They include The front components with silk dome tweeters, rear door mids and rear deck 6x9 woofers. All speaker mounting plates and adapter plugs are included. Please PM me if you're interested or know somebody that is.

Thank you.

My entire system has been upgraded already.

yeah I remember your box...and I love it too!

Just got to figure out how I am going to afford it.

But I have two amps still floating around then...don't know what to do with them which is why I was wondering about a rear trunk panel box.

That was solid so I could mount amps there or have the option.

But might not be feasible with shipping and what not to do.

Mount the amps in the spare tire well.

All day!

I have two AVINCAR 8 speaker systems for the TSX left. I will take deposits. First come, first serve. PM me if you're interested or have questions.

Also, like mentioned previously, amping these new speaks will give you better sound. You can get the mercman harness and amp to your heart's desire!

Thanks for posting the pics Uncald4

Guess I'll brainstorm something to do with that wasted space.

That would completely free up my trunk!

Isn't the Avincar TSX set designed to be used with the stock amp? I believe the stock amp does not put out a linear signal to the speakers and the Avincar set was designed to alter the output, if you put a linear signal with an external aftermarket amp wouldnt it affect the output of these speakers?

You are correct. The AVINCAR TSX set was designed specifically to better compliment the factory installed amp. These speakers have more output and better dynamic range than the original speakers. Juicing them further can be done to get more sound.

I have 2 kits up for grabs. Please shoot me a PM if you want the set. They will not be offered again.

Hey, good to see you are alive . I still love my Avincar kit in my CL-S - such a prefect match for the crappy stock system .

Talking TSX AVINCAR SPEAKER UPGRADE may return from the dead!

I just joined the forums and been reading all these great reviews about the AVINCAR speaker upgrade. To my disappointment the kit is no longer available, but fortunately I was able to contact Ken about the TSX Version of the kit and here is his reply.

"I am contacting the original mid and woofer supplier to see if I can order the part numbers. The tweeter is still in production. I would need to have enough "pre-order" interest to A) buy the parts, and B) Pay for the Authorized Vendor fees.

I will let you know!

Regards,

Ken"

Just a heads up for anybody who is interested!
