AVIC N1/AVIC N2/AVIC D1 Video lockout solved
to those that have done this to the D1, is it ok to use the A.Antenna lead? or is that wire necessary for our cars? If it is necessary, can i pull out the cell phone mute lead and connect that to the blank spot on the harness? Any other suggestions? i don't know where i could get an extra pioneer wiring harness. Thanks.

Disclaimer: You purchased the information, not the results of the information, if you are not comfortable with electronics then do not continue, there are no refunds and I am not responsible with what you do with this information
Background: What people do not know is that the AVIC-N2/D1 is the same in every country, although in every country other then the US you can watch DVD’s and use all of your Navigation features. A question my electronics shop asked ourselves was, if the hardware is the same, the software is the same they what is the AVIC missing to keep you from being able to use all of its features. Other bypass’s make you use 3-6 switches and relays and opening up the brain to the unit or cutting the GPS wire.
Solution: All that’s needed is one wire….The difference between all the units in the other country is they have a wire connecting two different processors and this is how you do it.
AVIC- N2: On the Dash unit not the Brain underneath the unit is a small silver sticker, peel this back. There are two contacts with the label "R197" or label “F197” there should be two soldier points loop a wire between those two points AND DONE!!!! Everything bypassed, THE REAL WAY TO DO IT.
AVIC-D1: Find an extra Pioneer wire harness, and pull one of the wires out. Or, if you do not use the A.ANT lead, pull that out of the harness. In the AVIC-D1 harness, there is one open spot on the connector (next to the ground wire). Put the wire into the open spot on the connector, connect the other side to ground, then re-connect the plug to the AVIC-D1. Also, you must ground the Parking Brake wire (or connect to a toggle switch if you feel the need).
Before you continue please read:
Your warranty will be voided unless you keep this mod very clean so you can undo it and they will never even notice that you did it, our Pioneer rep actually is the person who filled me in on this information. Also, Use 26 Gauge (or something close) and this is very important: DO NOT DROP SOLDIER, if you look carefully, there are traces around these two points that absolutely cannot be contacted. It was hard for me to do because these points were so small and that the wire was so thin. It is best to use a soldering iron that has a super fine tip and heats up better then most…if you feel uncomfortable with this process then take it to a electronics or computer repair shop and they could do it for you in 5 minutes and for around $5 bucks….be very careful, b/c if you touch these traces I do not know what will happen or want to know what will happen...this is like most mods, it’s a very simple mod (the easiest type you can find) although like anything a lot is at stake and could go wrong, please, if you do not feel comfortable doing this then DON’T, spending an extra $5 is worth it to get it done right…

Is that sticker also on the AVIC N1? I just upgraded my N1 with N2 discs. I miss the ability to search for an address while on the move. I don't care about watching video. Never used it to this date.
does the bypass wire for the avic n2 really works.?? has anyone tryed it for thier player yet..?? let me know people becuz ima pick up a avic n2 today...does it mess anything up to ur player like give u any dead pixel or anything..? or screen is gone..?
Now i have the older disks for the N1, and want to upgrade to the newer version(N2).currently to bypass i have the parking lead grounded. Does the wire still need to be grounded with the newer software ? If anyone needs an iso of the older software, i can put on my ftp... But i'll trade for the newer version. I want to do this in the hopes that my map data will improve. Lastly, does anyone know how to add map data to the existing data ?

Unless there is a new way to bypass the video/navigation lockout once upgraded from the avic-n1 software (40mt) to the new avic-n2 software (50mt). I know the wire under the Avic-n2 works but what about us the AVIC-N1 users that want to upgrade to the new software...
Let me know
Avic-n1 Bypass Upgrade Repair
Hello, just wanted to let everyone know that I have found, or should I say bought
a way out of the AVIC-N1 upgrade. I was under the impression that you had to
send the AVIC-N1 unit back to PIONEER to have the drive erased. Infact, I posted
that statement on this and other forums of equal and like discussions on this
matter. Well, I have found another way to revert back to the original 40mt
Software. I was on the site "THE12VOLT.COM" and while looking in the
"Mobile Video And Navigation Forum," ran accross a post titled
"UNDIONG THE AVIC-N1 TO N2 UPGRADE"
This post was started by "JOSMAN" on December 15, 2005 at 1:11 P.M.
He found a person selling the instructions on how to go into a menu system on
the AVIC-N1 and delete all the N2 UPGRADE DATA and Re-install the Original 40mt
Disc and Data. I was hesitant, but I contacted the ebay member and got
verification from other members who had bought and tried this technique and
was assured that it worked. I purchased the information and 'LORD BEHOLD" it
worked like a charm. If you try this, Follow the instructions to a tee. They are in
a step by step format with pictures. It took about 10-15 minutes to complete the
process. It is same procedure that Pioneer will use.
So, you can save yourself $70 - 100 dollars. It only cost me $10.00 to purchase
the information from the ebay seller.
The link is:

Or, just go on the EBAY web site and search for ITEM #5841799213
or ITEM #5843704582
If you dont see the item for sale there because the bids have ended, just look up
under the "VIEW SELLER'S OTHER ITEMS" in the Seller Information Window.
It may be being sold under a different ITEM #
I promise this works. I can look at DVD'S again { while driving } as well as use all
the NAV Functions while driving. This was a true blessing. This saved me time and
money, not to mention the fact that I did'nt have to tear my dash apart to take
out the AVIC-N1. I would post how to do it on this site, but that would be taking
money out of the pocket of the ebay seller. I dont think that would be fare. I
did'nt discover it, that person did, so its only fair that the seller is rightfully paid
for his knowledge and service. DONT YOU!!!!!!
I hope this helps. NSTYL

N2 Features Compared to N1
ok so here is my question. Does the software upgrade for the n1 (that basically makes it an n2) improve the overall features of the ipod connection. Also regarding the files on the disc. How did youisolate them. I would like to upgrade my n1 so that the ipod connectivity is better, but i am not willing to sacrifice video playback while moving for it. This features means alot to my family because we take long trips. I am going to borrow my buddies d1 discs (basically the same as the upgrade and see if i can isolate those files, if they exist. Also does the update improve ipod connection features?

Too bad I can't award any rep points for this post.
Jumper on N1 or Hybrid N2/N1 DVD?
Well it is great that the Pioneer Avic-N2 has a jumper to fix this problem.
BUT, what about the N1????
Did anyone take theirs apart to see if the jumper is there?
Has anyone made a hybrid N1/N2 DVD that gives you the new maps but not the new lockout?
I really need the updates for my N1, but I need the ability for my passenger to enter destinations while we are moving.
