Anyone changed to an aftermarket headunit?

I was wondering if there is an adapter kit to install an aftermarket headunit into the TSX. It seems to be one big piece for the factory cover.

Anyone using an aftermarket headunit now and any pics? I'm planning to trade-in my GTI for the TSX and rip most of the audio stuff from my car to the TSX as the speaker sizes are the same for the front.

Current setup:
Alpine 7875 headunit, gonna change to a Alpine IVA-D300 indash DVD
Phoenix Gold Titanium 400.2 and 600.2 amps
AVI front components
Kaption rear components
2 10" Kaption SPL subs
and all the wiring gonna be used also including my 0awg power cable!!

There is space to use an aftermarket headunit but you have to use it in conjunction with the OEM one. It goes in where the cd storage area is. Acura makes an MP3 player that goes in that spot and AFAIK it's a standard DIN size. You have to pick up a couple brackets and mounting hardware but it's not that expensive.

That kinda sucks. Have to leave the stock unit in and then add the aftermarket in the empty pocket below. Guess I gotta stick with the stock one.

You wouldn't actually use the OEM head unit, all the speakers would be plugged into the new head unit. You wouldn't be able to use the 6 disk changer either. That's why I don't think it's a worthwhile upgrade.

The stock HU puts out farily decent sound and with the alpine type s upgrade it sounds even better and with a sub should soothe most audioheads needs..

Unless you are trying to build a competition system I think the stock HU is just fine.

adding a sub to the stock HU at this point seems somewhat impossible, we tried today. in fact we didnt even get to it, we just used the line from the 6x9 to get the signal for the sub, and later were gonna wire the 6x9s as full range speakers. since the HU has no real intent on adding a sub Acura really screwed us over with that monster piece of equipment

The head unit is great. Their is really no need to change it out. Plus you can add the snhond03 (which allows you to add just about any type of device to the headunit). The amp of the head unit can be changed out. it just takes some work. The HU puts out 4 chanels low input music (you just have to modify by changing it to RCA connections). For most membors just changing out the door speakers and adding a sub (using the rear 6x9 lines) is an easy mod that sounds really good.

However if you are into competion then you may want to find a way to replace the HU.

If you do put in a new head unit, how would you get power to it? Is there some kind of universal power adapter?
