anybody tried Infinity's in the doors?
anybody tried Infinity's in the doors?
I will soon have a 03 TLS and I want to put Infinity Kappa 63.5i 's in the doors. Is this possible? Any pros/cons? I would buy a 4-channel amp to run them...
Also let me say that I am partial to the Infinity sound, so I would MUCH rather buy Infinity than any other brand....

I looked into them when I was searching for an EASY stock replacement speaker. They sounded EXTREMELY too sibilant with the stock EQ in circuit. Also, they will require some custom spacer work.
However, if you are bypassing the stock EQ and driving them with another amp, the only problem you will have to deal with is the mounting hassle. You may have to cut the door frame hole out a bit larger and custom make a 1 inch spacer in order for them to fit. If you're not afraid to do what it takes to get them installed and properly driven, I'm sure they would sound great!
They were on the top of my list at the beginning of my search, along with MBQuarts... but I soon realized that I would have to replace the EQ and amp to drive either of them and also do some serious door-work, so I ended up settling on the POLK DX6s because they were an EASY stock replacement and are plenty effecient while not sounding too over emphasized at the highs.
If you're partial to Infinity Kappas, and you're prepared to do the work, I'm sure you'll be happy with the results. Search some threads... I know that some other people have installed them...

I have Infinity Kappa 6.5" 3-ways in the front doors and 5.25" 2-ways in the rear doors. Awesome sound and you can really crank 'em.
No cutting of the door is necessary - the speakers will fit. But you will need a 1" thick spacer to mount the speakers to the doors (made mine of MDF). That gives you the clearance you need to close your windows. Only 1.5" can protrude behind the door panels. I'm using the Bose head with an Alpine Sub processor/Parametric EQ, Phoenix Gold 4-channel 500 watt amp and completely rewired.

well, honestly, i'd pay someone to do the install. I've had infinity's in my legend since about 95 and i'd like to continue the trend, but i would be open to other ideas....
any reason why you didnt choose the MB Quart's??

The MBQuarts sounded GREAT in the store...
They sounded like H&ll in the car with my temporary spacer mounted up against the door for listening tests. They have a Titanium dome tweeter and were just waaaaaaaay too bright. Also, they were waaaaaaaaay tooooooooo big to begin to fit in the stock door cutout. These were the RKC116 model. They are oversized for 6-1/2 inch speakers... or should I say they are TRUE 6 1/2 inch speakers. I walked away from them because they were WAY too bright and WAY too big to fit into the stock car.
I also liked the Diamond M361i coaxial. It sounded fairly nice in the store and in the car... but the metal speaker basket was built too deep to allow the speaker to fit into the door hole cutout with the stock 3/4 inch spacer...
It's NOT simple to find the right sound and fit for this car... Thanks to Acura/Bose and small clearances.
Good Luck!
