Any First-Hand Knowledge of 2005 NAVI Stereo Setup?

There seems to be more questions than answers when trying to figure out if the 04 add-ons SDHOND and ice-link will work with the 05, considering XM is now part of the AUX system.

I don't have my 05 NAVI TSX yet, but I'm trying to plan around it, but although I've asked many questions, I still have nothing but questions .

For instance, the guys at SoundGate tell me that I'll lose XM if I use their unit. I don't quite understand why, since it looks like you can toggle between AUX and XM on the 05. Here's what he said:

The factory switch is for toggling between the XM and the factory MP3 which is labeled AUX. This will not allow for just any RCA audio input to the system, it is still factory equipment restricted.
But I thought SDHOND actually made an AUX out of the proprietary connection? I'm confused.

Can someone with an 05 confirm that you can toggle from XM to Aux?

If Acura still supports the MP3 disc player in the 05, then something must be workable w/o removing XM from the picture, right?

Can anyone with an 05 comment or add insight?

Thanks,
Jon

Sorry, since I can't edit my post, let me say that when I said "SDHOND" above, I meant SNHOND3.

Thanks,
Jon

Please remember that you can't toggle to AUX unless an AUX is present, so the set of '05 owners that can do this is pretty thin.

I believe that this is the same as the '04 Accord, and the thread by humperdood should explain how it works: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16057

Should be a wiring diagram...

From: San francisco,
I have a 2005 TSX with Navi (in the bay area) and I am very interested in adding navi. Unfortunately I am also a car installation n00b (with a capital 0). If anyone in the area wants to give me a hand with the install I would gratefully be a guinea pig. In compensation I offer to 1) Buy you a meal at the place of your choice 2) Post pics for the whole world to see.
PM me and I'll order the unit.
PS if you're fat we're going to a buffet

Yikes,

I just read through the überthread, and it looks like the mascinations involved to get things working (and at that with some residual noise) seems to be, shall we say, adventurous to say the least.

I'm quite bummed. I can't believe how tricky it is to turn a built-in AUX function into something that can be used for other than Acura's expensive mp3 disc player.

I actually would even consider Acura's MP3 disc player if it hid behind the cubby door. I think that removing the cubby door for the MP3 player really makes it look after-market. But even then, it's only a 1-disc player. Nothing even close to the flexibility my Archos Gmini400 provides.

Jon, I am going to the Consumer Electronics Show today in Las Vegas, and I will see if anything is introduced by PIE, Peripheral, Soundgate, etc., to do this in 2004 XM equipped accords/tsx's. I will report back in about a week. Cya, all!

Thanks Elduderino. Looking forward to hearing from you. I wish I had a job that allowed me to go to the CES (or that mandated it!).

I think you mean 2005 when it comes to TSX (2004 was dealer-installed only and used FM modulation I think).

Anyway you will be my hero if you can find a simple solution to AUX input on an ’05 TSX w/Navi. I do plan to have it professionally installed, but it’d still be nice to purchase something easy to install (should cost me less labor, and be more likely to work correctly).

I’ve read the mentioned thread as well, and it gave me more discouragement than encouragement. There is a new thread that seems straiter forward though: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19478 The only thing that concerns me is that it’s an ’04 with aftermarket XM, so I’m not 100% his solution will work on an ’05.

THe only problem keeping the AUX adapters from working is that they don't disconnect their audio wires from the CD Changer bus when another source (eg. XM) is selected. Also, you need the OEM Honda bus cable 2 port (Y cable) in order to get an open CD changer port.

That is all that is needed for it to work. I've posted that at the forums over at Blitzsafe.com and they've never replied. Maybe we need to email them or call them and tell them this.

Is this really true? It seems like everyone with XM/NAVI (ie., Accord EX) is having some kind of noise or audio problem when trying to mod the AUX to work for an external device.

What does the Acura MP3 player do that allows it to work with no audio or switching problems?

The noise on XM will go away with this solution, guaranteed.

You can't just disconnect the power to the AUX adapter. That will still leave noise on the XM side of things. The audio wires (all four of 'em, it's floating ground) need to be disconnected.

There may be alternator whine on the AUX input but that was cured with a ground loop isolator and proper grounding of the source equipment.

IIRC, the Honda/Acura MP3 player is a "pass through" for the CD changer device (the Aux adapter emulates a CD changer). I think you plug in the MP3 player to the bus then the Aux adapter into the MP3 player, so in that case it won't matter.
