AMP Question

Ordered the MB Quart QSD-216 for the from and their coxial for the rear. Need help on a great amp that will be crystal clear. The front speakers were 700 bucks and the rears at 200 bucks, need a amp to power those, and 2 subs I might get. Still looking for subs, was thinking about the Alumapro BP-12 subs. What do you think for an amp, and how do you feel about Alumapro Subs.

I am guessing you mean the HXA400MKII. I also have one of those. It is not 400w. It is 4x70w at 4ohms and 4x125 at 2 ohms. So you are a little bit off on your specs. Unless you have the old model (pre MKII).

How much do you want to spend on the amps? How much on the subs? How much room are you willing to give up for the subs? What are you after SPL? SQ? SQL? What headunit are you using?

haha, I was using it to power my two Kef subs. Which were great, but i got a Class D amp for them now. If u want to know, it's a DEI 1100d. And using the HElix for the front comps right now, no rear. I might be getting some Mid range drivers and use the other channels to power them.

The DEI1100d is a very good sub amp. Especially for the price. What are you using for speakers?

I have crystal comps in the front. I want to change them out, but no money!! If you could send me yours, since you didn't put yours in yet...that would be great .... I want something with more mid bass, but my friend is learning how to do fiberglass, so if it works out, i might just get a mid range driver and have him make me kicks.

Re: Re: AMP Question

I bought the Alpine CDA-7998. No internal Amp. I have the MQ Quart, QDS-216 and DTC-169. Money I am not worried about, I want great amps. I was thinking of 3. I for the sub (haven't decided on sub yet. I want tight bass, not that much of a boom). 1 for the front speakers, and 1 for the rears, unless i get 1 for the speakers and 1 for the sub. Every hear of memphis amps ? Thanks

Re: Re: Re: AMP Question

If money is not a concern I HIGHLY recommend the Brax X1400 or the Brax X2400!

For SQ subs I would go with one of the following:

A/D/S/ subs are on sale if you buy by the pair right now from www.mmxpress.com

A single Crystal CMP 12 would also do the trick

JL is always a solid choice

And the Focal Utopia subs are very nice. They do take up quite a bit of room though...

Memphis makes a very solid amp. I would use one of the Brax amps mentioned above for your MBQ's and a Memphis Class D would be a nice pairing with any of the subs mentioned above.

Since you were looking at he Alumapro's (the Allusonic ones come loaded in the BP series I believe) I am assuming you have heard and enjoy the sound of a metal cone sub. I would definitely go the route of the A/D/S/ .2 series subs. If you get two of the ones from mmxpress which are the DVC 12's I would go with the Memphis 1000D and wire your subs for a 1 ohm load.

You could also look at the DEI 1100d...

Let me know if this helps at all!

Did you get the old style Crystal speakers or the new ones? Silk or metal dome?

No way am I giving up my speakers. I love these things!! Smoothest sounding speakers I have ever heard bar NONE. They are pretty power hungry though... What have you been looking at for a mid bass driver?

What do you mean by quality? If you mean build quality then I would say it is the same as most of the mainstream subs out there (Alpine, JL, Infinity, Boston...)

If you mean sound quality, they are OK. For the price that the A/D/S/ 213rs.2 is selling for right now I would say it is one of the best deals around right now. I REALLY like the A/D/S/ subs. I even liked them for their original price which was almost double what the sale price is right now. Hell of a deal!

Just keep in mind that neither me nor anyone else on this forum has to listen to your system everyday. Make sure you go out and listen to as many subs as you can until you find the right one for YOUR tastes.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Bryan

Hey I just found this ad (see below). you could run channels 1-4 to your MBQ's and run a pair of this A/D/S/ subs for a 1ohm load (or any pair of DVC ohm subs of your choosing) to the amps class d channel 5. The price seems pretty good too!

I have one semi used Memphis Belle Amp. I'll tell you want I know about it. Its
a 6channel 600watt amp. Its highly polished. More information can be found on
http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/public/Competition Amplifiers.pdf I'm asking
$400 plus shipping. Please email me at jmann55654@aol.com

I have the old ones, not the new ones. Wonder if the new one sounds good..do you know? I have silk tweets...i would go with new comps...maybe three ways...but i just addin a mid bass driver might be better and cheaper for me.....I really haven't looked into it yet, but i heard DD makes a good one...and Dynaudio, which is what u have...but they're like 6 bills or so...that's ALOT OF MONEY.!! u must be loaded to get all Dynaudio!!

You have the old Crystal comps and you don't think there is enough midbass????? Are you giving them enough power? Try pitting them in a small enclosure (like if your friend is going to build you kicks) or try sealing your door with some Cascade or something. The old Crystal CPE series with the silk tweets are one of my favorite mid priced speaker sets around. I thought they had an enormous amount of midbass... Make sure you check your install before dumping them...

I'm using my Helix for them right now. So it would be 75/80 watta RMS to them. Everybody told me crystals have good midbass...but it doesn't seem like it to me..I raamatted my whole door. it might be because i'm using the stock basket with them. Maybe i need to make a ring out of MDF for them instead...what do u think?

You may wanna look at standard Rockford Fosgate and Type RF Rockford Fosgate amps. JL is only good for high impedances.
