Amp mounting locations

I was wondering if an amp could be mounted under the rear deck, between the rear speakers (I don't have a TSX yet to look). I don't want to attach one to the back of the rear seats because I plan to fold them down and use the trunk and wouldn't want to damange the amp.

Alternatively, would it be possible for someone to measure under the passenger seat to see if there's space for an amp? Height is always the issue - in my current car they had to remove a little of the padding from the passenger's seat and I don't want to do that in the TSX.

Any other possible locations?

Thanks!

yes, you can, but you have to be able to blow the heat that is produced by the amp so it can keep going out/away of the amp. that is if your amp doesn't have internal fan. A pair of computer fans (1 sucking cold air and 1 blowing hot air) should do the trick.

No room under the seats. I don't recommend mounting under the rear deck due to heat buildup. A smaller amp would fit OK on the side panel in the trunk near the rear of the car. I am at odds too where to put an amp. If I was to amp the system I would get a 5 channel but they are so damn big.

A smaller amp? What's the available space? Could 2 2-channel amps fit? Would heat build-up really be that much of a problem? With my Eclipse amp under the seat in the Integra, there's very little breathing room, and it's never had a single glitch even after hours of use.... Hmmm.... Next time I go look at the TSX I'll have to bring a tape measure.

have a look at audsion amps. They are quite small compared to other amps and they are very good. 5 channel amps from audison are SRx5 and LRx5.600.

My preference is only to power the front stage and the sub, not the rear speakers as they are only for fill. So you don't need a 5 channel amp. a 3 or 4 channel amp should be enough. But that's my preference.

No sub for me (unless I decide to cram some 8" free-air subs in the 6x9 slots), so maybe just a 2-way amp would suffice if that's all there's space for. I agree about the rear being fill - but a good amp would at least let you tune the frequencies of the rear speakers (e.g., decrease the high and low-end for better imaging). Whatever happened to the "old" days when it was easy to figure out where to put things? Silly car manufacturers and their proprietary systems!

I strongly disagree with this. The rear door speakers are full range and receive the same signal level as the front door speakers. Do your back seat passengers a favor and don't forget them.

The australian version doesn't have any speakers on the rear door, only on rear parcel. and I only have rear passengers occasionally

Agreed...Also, when installing a separate amp, and totally bypassing (i.e. removing) the stock amp, the rear speakers will need to be amplified. Unless you're thinking about amplifying the already amplified signal in the front, you will need to have enough channels to power all the speakers.
