Post AMP installation tips

Does anyone have any tips on hooking up my amp? If I get out of here in good time tonight I might hook it up. I've installed a couple amps in the past but there's always some tricks that you figure out as you are doing the install.

Where did you guys run the power wire through the cabin? I'm thinking about running it along the drivers side door under the plastic trim along the floor.

Also, what grommet did you poke the wire through the firewall?

Anyone take pictures during the install?

These are good questions. It took me a while to find a good place to put the power cord through, but there is a good rubber gasket on the passenger side about knee-high that you can push the cord through. Its the biggest one in view, so its easy to find, and the cord will pop through the firewall just where the rug ends in the footwell (towards the center console more than the speaker). Just keep pushing the cord through...eventually it will pop out.

I usually run wires under the plastic trim, and this install was no different, plenty of room in there, but its nice and tight as the car is new so it takes some effort.

Nice install Ortiz - you went through a different gasket than the one I did if you used one on the drivers side, but it looks like it worked fine for you.

I couldn't reach any other but the one on the passenger side. What color wire did you connect as the remote turn on lead ?
I conencted my amp to the Yellow/red wire and it turns on with the stock radio.

I have a 12" sub and box with a Pioneer mono amp left over from my Golf. It's been sitting around for a year and none of my friends wanted it so I'm going to hook it back up. I was actually pretty happy with the stock system but I figured I've already paid for it so I might as well use it. Nothing fancy really. If I feel inspired I might machine some adapters to use 8" woofers where the 6x9's go and get rid of the 12".

Will do. I'm going to take the measurements for everything when I install the amp. If I'm going to make one set I might as well make two....

Good idea. I wonder if it's feasible.

Just FYI , the gromet on that ortiz used to put the power through the firewall is being occupied by the clutch pedal if you have a 6MT. I'm going to look for the gromet that callmetsx used tomorrow...

You can try going through the wireing harness just above and to the left of that gromet.

I'm about to head out there and try again. If I can't get it through that wireing harness I'm just going to drill a hole and use my own gromet.

Does anyone see any issues with using the cigarette lighter in the center console under as a place to connect the remote power switch? I want to leave the head unit as untouched as possible in case I have trouble with it down the road (lights going out).

I don't think you will have any problems with that.

You don't want to see pics because it's a pretty ghetto rig. The amp is about 4 yrs old and the sub is about 2. I still need to mess around with my amp's crossover and bass boost because it seems to be really peaky. What is the crossover point of the 6x9's? Also does anyone know if the door speakers are full range?

I did do one cool thing when I hooked it up... I put a switch on the remote power switch line so I can turn the amp on and off manually.
