amp
what can i do with the remote power cable for my amp? will it work if i connect it to the power lead to the factory amp? by doing this will it cut the power to my amp when i shut the car off so my amp isnt on all the time?
Hi, welcome.
1) It helps in the AV section if you tell us what car you are working with, and what gear you are working with as well. Even though the site may make it easy to think that the AV forum is for your particular car, if you entered the AV section from the site about that car, it is actually a shared section with all the Acurazine model-sites. Bottom line, we don't know what you drive.
2) The OEM amp is usually very low power and as such usually has a very small power wire. I don't know what amp you're putting in, but odds are you need a new power wire run straight from the battery. Consider an amp wiring kit, that will usually give you everything you need, including...
3) Amps have a constant power connection and a "Remote turn on" input, or remote, or RTO. This is a 12V signal that tells the amp when to be on... without it, the amp pulls no power. Most Acura head units have one of these, almost ALL aftermarket HUs do, and if your cars' wire is hard to find, some amps don't need one, and some widgets create a RTO output from mopnitoring the speaker leads for signal.

He seems to be asking if the amp's remote input can connect to the OEM amp POWER wire. If that's what he's asking, of course, the answer would be no.

i have the main power coming from the battery but i think i can connect the remote power cable from the amp to the radio switch on the factory amp so when i turn the car off it will cut the power to the amp. i think i figured it out but thanx for the input. oh and i have a 2002 cl-p.
