Aftermarket Tweeter Install
Aftermarket Tweeter Install
I am looking for some basic instruction on how to install aftermarket tweets in the stock location in the TSX. i know tsx536 has this done. just wanted to post out here for everyone's benefit. any advice would be good.
1. Yell "boo" loudly at stock tweeters. They will jump up in fright out of the dash. Grab them out of the air and unplug them.
2. Connect wires for new tweeters to existing wires IF rewiring speaker wires at amp. If not, run new wires to tweeters from tweeter crossovers (you better have some that came with your tweeters).
3. Rest tweeter in hole. If tweeter falls through hole, call our technical support department. If tweeter doesn't fit in hole at all, take your Dynaudio MD100 back and get a smaller tweeter. Repeat until tweeter fits in hole.

i don't know if there is any quality difference from other setups because i haven't heard anything but my own system. i doubt there is much...IF ANY. but what i do like is the functionality. It allows me to amp my system. and it provides a separate volume knob, which i have custom mounted to the left of my shifter, which doubles as an A/B switch... the cleansweep provides a RCA input for expandability. I have my ipod hooked up to this and will eventually hook up an in-dash dvd unit to this. and the sound quality is awesome. hope this helps.

my stereo install bypasses the factory amp. so do i still need to use the included crossovers? i would think the stock tweeters must have some crossover installed in the line because they work fine
right but that crossover point isn't going to be optimized for any new tweeter you buy, thats why they include their own crossovers, you need to use them or else you risk damaging the tweet

You can use the wiring from the tweeter location to the OEM amp location in the center console. There are no crossovers present anywhere in that circuit. You need to use some kind of crossover for the tweeter somewhere. And don't put it in the OEM amp location - the inductors will pick up engine noise.
so help me out... are you running the 4 channels from the head unit (pre-amp) into the cleansweep, which then goes to your amp(s)? If so, what are your results? Any engine noise, whines, turn on/off pops, etc?
eldude,
what do you think about running the HU pre-amp outs into an Audiocontrol Matrix? It's basically a high quality line driver that accepts balanced inputs and also incorporates a GLI, if needed. Do you think that might be a good way to use the pre-amp signal and possibly avoid noise issues?
p.s. sorry for the hijack

Well, since I've done this conversion four times, and once (with a smallish Kicker amp) there was noise when the gain was turned too high, and a Visonik line driver seems to have handled that issue, I guess it's possible - but so far I have not seen anything that makes me think that these cars have noise problems inherently.
I am not saying they don't, either. I'm just saying that as far as I can tell, it MIGHT be install related, and it might be product related, but it's certainly not a noisy car in my experience.
Having done years of t-shooting over the phone for an alarm manufacturer, I know that there are things that are hard to t-shoot over a phone or through e-mail.
However, tomorrow we are doing another interface, this time in an 06. Let's see how it goes.

basically. sound is clear as glass. there is a little bit of the whine, not from the speakers, but i've had that in every car i've owned.
