Aftermarket Sub and Amp

hello everyone. i'm very inexperienced when it comes to adding mods to my car. my first project will be adding an aftermarket 12" sub and amp to my 2000 TL. i was hoping someone could take the time to provide step by step instructions on how to do this or at least answer a few questions:
do i have to remove my factory head unit?
if so, how and why?
what do i use as the power source for the amp? do i just connect it directly to the battery?
would you recommend running both the factory sub with an aftermarket one?
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

If you do a search; you will find many answers to your question.
I added an amp and subwoofer to my existing unit. I did not disconnect any of the speakers and I think it sounds great.
I had a shop do the install since it was free with the purchase of the Kicker Amp and Kicker Comp sub.
