Question Aftermarket audio installs?

I'm looking to install an aftermarket stereo system in a 2000 3.2TL.
For those who have installed aftermarket head units - how did you do it? Where can I get a dash kit for a single-DIN head unit?

For those who have installed aftermarket front-stage speaker components - did you install in the factory locations, or use kickpanels? Any problems?

TIA!

as far as i know, there are no dash kits made for our TL's yet. you could have the shop custom make you one out of wood or plastic. use your existing front plate and cut the opening for the aftermarket radio; use the remaining plate as a template for your dash kit.

For those who are reading and are in the NY area, I just had a custom dash kit made for me (a very nice job, made of wood and spray-painted the right shade of black to match the stock color) for $65 including the wire harness and installation of the head unit. It was done by Security Plus in East Norwich, Long Island (Nassau county, almost to the Suffolk county border), and I would recommend them as a good install shop!

no, I don't have a NAV unit in my TL.

Not only was it hard to find one, I couldn't get nearly as good a deal on a NAV-equipped car and frankly I don't think I'd ever use it. And I like the way the dash looks better too.

Hmmm, I don't remember what brand it was. It was black spray paint, that's all I remember. I'll ask him the next time I speak to him (which may not be all that soon, unfortunately).
