Acura Music Link (for Ipod)
Acura Music Link (for Ipod)
All I really listen to in my car is my Ipod. So i figured this would be a practical buy for me.
Has anyone had this installed on their TL yet?
If so, how do you like it? Would you recommend it to others??

The system works well, but it takes a little getting used to. Essentially you load some software onto your computer which will add a 2 sec track to each song. You will only see these extra tracks on Itunes, not on your ipod.
The system allows you to use buttons on your stereo to access your ipod. The sound quality is excellent, however, using the system is not quite up to Acura's normal "user friendly" standards.
There is no voice recognition feature and it does not turn your Nav screen (if you have one) into an ipod display.

Awesome. Thanks for the information. After reading your post I figured it was worth it and purchased one on-line.
Kind of bummed the Ipod display won't show up on the Nav screen, but whatever. As long as I can control everything from the steering wheel then I'm fine with it.
One thing that would be sweet though (and highly unlikely) is if you owned a video ipod the nav screen would switch over and play those on there. Haha. That would be

Thanks again!

Yeah. The hook up for the ipod is located in the glove box (after installation). I just ordered mine and will have a buddy of mine install it as soon as I get it.
I bought it off of Ebay for cheaper than dealer cost. Brand new in box OEM straight from the factory.
Just run a search for, Acura Music Link.

Agh! Yeah. Sorry for the misinterpretation. For some reason I kept thinking that you could.
Oh well, thanks for the heads up though!
I probably would've complained to the vendor thinking I got ripped... haha

Save yourself time and trouble now and cancel your order / return it.
Lots of people have had bad experiences with the system. An even more fully featured system is available from usa spec (aftermarket) which costs less, sounds great, and has even more functionality (like steering wheel controls and an extra aux rca input).

Interesting. Has anyone else had problems with the Acura Music Link?
That OEM integrated product Reach recommended looks like a viable alternative. Reach do you currently have this set up in your TL?

Enable controls on iPhone 3G while connected to MusicLink
Hey folks. I just figured out how to disable the "iPod accessory attached" screen when connected to the MusicLink system, enabling the use of my iPhone 3G's controls from the phone itself.
I have an '06 TL with the MusicLink adapter and found a workaround that's come in pretty useful. I'll admit it's overpriced, but it can get easier to use than with that dreaded robot-sounding control system.
If you have an iPhone 3G, make sure the firmware is updated to 2.0 (or later). While the iPhone is docked and playing with the car's system on MusicLink mode, press and hold the Home button on the bottom of the iPhone for 5 to 7 seconds. The music will eventually stop playing and your iPhone will return to the home screen, prompting you to release the home button. Now you can select the iPod button from your iPhone and browse through your songs and playlists as if you would with headphones. No more of that "Accessory Attached" screen! The only downside is that you'll lose the ability to control the iPhone through the steering wheel or radio controls, but it beats having to browse songs with the annoying synthesized voice.
If you're planning on getting one now, hold on. It sounds great, but that's where the plus side of things ends. It won't charge an iPhone 3G, and it's still a better (and cheaper) bet to go with an aftermarket accessory.
Hope this helps
