Accord JDM aux input help!
Accord JDM aux input help!
[Reposted from TSX Discussion Forum]
hi all! this is my first post and any help's appreciated..
i'm using a 2006 Accord JDM which is the same as the TSX and need some help on the stock HU.
i want to be able to play my iPod via the aux input which i know exists because there's a CD/Aux button on the HU. i've been browsing through various forums and right now it seems like i need a converter (SN3Hond and the like). my car is non-navi equipped and only plays single CD (no changer).
so before i decide to take the plunge, i need to clarify some things..
1. WHERE exactly is the Aux input in the 2006 Accord JDM (Acura TSX) and what do i need to remove (if any) to access it?
2. I've heard using the converter disables the XM radio. What is XM radio exactly? And why would Honda place a prominent Aux button on the HU if using it meant disabling the XM radio??
yep pretty trivial questions but can any gearheads here help a brother out?
to add on, the Accord JDM is NOT the Euro-R. it is the base Accord model that is sold in japan that LOOKS like the Euro-R. if i were to make a comparison, the Accord JDM is the same as the Accord Euro (no R). in fact, the Euro-R is a modified enhanced version of the Accord JDM with a different engine. internally, the Accord JDM is the same as the Accord USDM (not sure about the Acura TSX insides).

That would be the easiest answer....
The XM Radio is probably only in the US.

i guess that must be where the Acura and Accord differs. there is no aux input port anywhere accessible within the vehicle. however, i now know for certain there is an aux port hidden behind the storage box (just under the HU) but it is not a standard RCA/phono jack.
apparently Honda decided they were smart enough to use a proprietary jack instead which would only work with either official Honda audio products, or special aftermarket converters (like ICELINK, SN3HOND etc). fyi, the special jack that i'm referring to is a white 14 or 16-pin plug. any pic of an ICELINK would give you a good idea what i'm talking about.
regarding the XM radio, i guess no issue for me then. sadly, these aftermarket converters aren't available where i live (singapore) and shipping it from the US/UK would eat me alive in fees. =(
Maybe you can find a local car audio shop that imports them. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you about shipping from the US. So much for free trade, I guess!
It sounds like the radio is quite different, so there's no guarantee that the US-spec adapter would work. However, with the unit I have, the plug (just like you described) is behind the pocket, and then up, underneath the radio. Hard to describe where the socket is and hard to find, but all sorts of info can be found in FAQs and other threads.
With the US radio, the plug was intended for an additional CD changer; these adapters just fool it into allowing an AUX input instead.
See if this helps:

Again, it's the US model, so good luck finding about the differences.

yea heard the aux port was meant for a cd changer..
from the way you describe the position of the aux it definitely seems to be exactly the same as what i have. if i open the storage box door halfway and take a look upwards, there it is sitting pretty under the radio unit.
whether USASPEC or ICELINK would work on it i can't say for sure but i don't see any reason why it shouldn't since the innards are exactly the same. the only diff i can think of is the US has to contend with XM radio (whatever the heck that is) while i don't.
