Hi!
I have a 2002 TL, and was wondering what is required to upgrade the sound system.

I really have no idea...

can I just buy 4 6.5inch speakers and exchage them?
or do i have to buy amps and stuff? and also is it possible to upgrade the subwoofer in the back?

I have about $3000 to spend... is that enough???

First of all welcome to A-Tl.com and congrats on your choice. To upgrade your system there are several things you could do. First the speakers could be change out. It not as easy as just buying a set of 6.5 speakers and installing them, unless you use Polk DX6 or other speaker that match the factory mounting specs. Polk DX6 are an easy and cheap upgrade. They can be used with the stock amp and still put out a good sound from what ive heard. Do a search on a thread by Southbound and the DX6 speakers, that thread will help you alot. A new amp is need if you truely are serious about wanting to get a better sound, but you still can use the stock, but i dont recommend this. Truely if you want a better sound you need to change out your headunit. I know some ppl like the stock look and i wont argue with them, but a good headunit can change the qualiy of your sound. Now for the sub, that a little more tricky, I strong suggest you do a search on that. The sub used is a specially built 9" low mount sub. It is almost impossible to exchange it with out having to do some work. Some ppl use an 8" custom mounted sub. DO A SEARCH ON THIS. Now for pricing.

Polk DX6 Speakers $98-109 for a set, so about $200 for 4
A Good amp will be around $250 to $500 depending on what you want.
Subs are from about $100 to $250 for a decent amp.
Headunit with a CD PLayer - 130 - $1500 (top of the line)
Install will run from $200-$1000 depending on customazation

so $3000 is enough for a good upgrade in your system and you can always add on later.
