2006 TL Sound system sounds weak

I just bought a 2006 TL with Navi and the stereo sounds weird. For some reason when i turn the volume up, the treble blasts me out, and the bass seems really weak which makes the sound very hollow and empty sounding. I do know that the previous owner had a sub in the trunk, but Best Buy said there was no amp running to my other speakers in my car.

I don't know what to do? I don't what they did and i don't really know where to start. any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are you trying to achieve, and what's your budget? That will be the best way for anyone here to give you advise...

$100-$200 I just want it to sound like it would have originally. I don't want to put subs in, i just want to correct the speakers that are there, or add an amp if possible, and i'm not sure which way i should take.

can i add an amp to this? what kind of speakers (wattage or brand or both) should i put in for the front speakers in the doors. it seems that those are the ones that are not giving me the full sound that it needs.

The best way to upgrade your stereo is to add a good set of component speakers powered by a good amp. However, you're going to spend more than your $100-$200 for this upgrade.

Speakers are personal choice. What sounds good to me may sound like the worst thing on earth to you... The best way to find what speakers you like is to listen to them...

The system getting weak after awhile is your ears getting used to the volume. That's a natural thing that your body does...

I tried adjusting the bass, treble, center speaker, fading front to back.... I just can't get it to sound normal. I think I need way better speakers in the front doors. I can reach my hand down and feel that they are working, but I can't tell they are even on when the system is playing. When I start to turn the volume a little louder, I notice that if I turn the fade to the rear speakers one notch, that the system sounds better because I get a more deep/full sound from the entire system. When sitting in the back seat, the system sounds pretty good... I'm not very savvy with this kind of stuff, and I'm a bit frustrated. Your help would be very much appreciated.

Maybe the door speakers are out of phase with each other? That will kill the low end. A simple test is to fade to the front, then turn the balance all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. If the left or right speaker alone has more bass then both at the same time, they are probably out of phase.

If BB doesn't know there is an OEM amp still in the car, the first step is to find another shop.
