2005 XM navi into 2004 navi
noticed that the new 2005 txs navi has xm integrated, how hard would it to be to put this into my 2004, since the button and xm is an aux component.
Im thinking its a simple external unit that goes into the aux import, and then just updated navi software to recognize and display xm content on the lcd.
Any info on this is helpful..Possible?

considering the 2005's have yet to be sold, no one has had a chance to take a look at how it is set up. So you might have to wait on that one.

I doubt installing XM is going to be all that easy. You'd need an antennae, the receiver, and the existing HU would have to be compatible with the new equipment.

The physical side would not be that hard. The tricky part is duplicating how the XM works through the OE HU on the display side.
"Just updated navi software"... say that to some programmer and watch him spin out. You need to talk to the guys on the Audio "hacking navi" thread, but I think this is your glitch, man.

I guess I just have to be patient and wait for the 2005's to start rolling out. It cant be that difficult, to get a 2004 navi up to speed with a 2005 navi version. Oh wait I think I understand, I was thinking it pulls its display featurs from the dvd, but I guess that dvd is the pack is only for map data, not display and features of the navi. So its something else that would have to be replaced, not the DVD software in the trunk. Is that what you guys think?

This was definitely something I've been wondering about. I really wonder whether it would be as simple as a software upgrade/prom flash and plugging in the hardware. You would think that when they made the units they would have scalability in mind...

I would think that the reason why someone said the XM is free for 3 months is because Honda offers 3 months free of XM service for those with XM radio....like the 05 Odyssey. Since Acura is supposed to be a "premium" brand, I would think that they differentiate the 2 brands by offering 1 year of free XM service to Acura brand, and 3 months to Honda brand.

I guess I disagree. It isn't really that hard to change the interface on the NAV unit. There were actually some signficant changes in the interface from Version 1.0 to Version 3.0. So, I think it is at least possible.

i said 3 months cause i got it from the Acura Website...but then it also says a year in another link......but then again one day the Acura Website said the 2005 RSX has H.I.D's! so there stupid.

I am planning on getting XM installed in my car for Christmas, and figure the XM Commander is going to cost $130 for the commander, $130 for the HOND adaptor, and $100 for installation, for a total of $360....so if I could do the stock way, I'd be willing to pay up to $500. I just don't know if the parts will be that inexpensive, plus labor to do it would cost a fortune. It just seems so obvious that Acura could make a bunch of $$ providing a retro fit kit for 04 owners, because I can't see it being that complicated to add.

I have a XM Commander in my Jeep GC. It is a nice unit but it has some draw backs. Because is has to go thru a radio signal, it is not CD quality sound any more. It also doesn't have the stock apperance.
I decided to wait for a 2005 TSX for the XM. It is all I listen to in the Jeep and is well worth the $10 a month. If you add another unit (like I will be when I buy the TSX) it only cost 6.99 more.

No, see the part about the HOND adaptor? That's to hardwire it into the sound system, with no real degrading of sound quality. That's the only way I would do it. You are right about it not looking stock, but do a search, a lot of people have flushed it into the lower console storage compartment, where I will have it done. You can cover it all the time, except when adjusting the station.

One month later, just wondering now that the '05s are out does anybody have an idea of the kind of upgrades required to update the '04 navi to have XM like the '05 does?

i asked my parts guy about it and he wasnt sure exactly what would be needed . he did say that he thought the whole main wireing harness would have to be replaced. i really dont belive that.
i would be willing to pay to swap out the radio if that is what is needed. but i have a hard time beliving it isnt any more complicated than adding some king of XM receiver and antenna. then some sort of plug in device just like they use to add on a changer or MP3 player.
the only reason the HU would need to be swapped is if the Databus in the OE HU doesnt support more than 1 xm and the optional Mp3 player at the same time. (assuming the cassette and MP3 player are still options on a 2005)
otherwise i am sure a new DVD version would also be needed on nav equipped units.
if you have non nav its either going to be just an add on unit or a HU swap and an add on unit. + antenna.
i am like you . i am kinda waiting for someone else to figure it out and give a list of what to buy.

The big thing I'm wondering about is whether or not the XM information screen can be displayed on the 2004 navi HU.
Would you be able to just use an 2005 navi disc and get the screen, meaning is just additional software, or is there extra hardware in the HU unit itself, which would require you to swap out the 04 navi unit for an 05 navi unit?

thats pretty much where i am stuck
depending on the cost involved i may just wait for the lease to run out or maybe just another year and trade in. i have my commander installed in the not an ashtray and i would be happy to sell it along with the modified tray for a swap of the OE replacement in factory condition.
course it would also unload the line driver and GLI and all necessary hardware if i were to upgrade to the integrated XM

Here's one idea about the one-touch sunroof: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14448
The beep is just a part, look at a '05 parts list and it should show what makes the noise. You could probably call your dealer.
