06 TSX Remote Start question?
06 TSX Remote Start question?
Hey guys,
I posted this up in the TSX forum but thought i would try and get more opinions and shorten my question. My girlfriend got me the Autopage RS 900LCD system for me for Christmas and everything works great except for one thing. I think the installer went tachless and only has it set to a certain crank time when starting the car. Well that would be fine in the summer, but it takes 5-6 cranks before my car will start in the morning whereas when it warm, its takes like 2-3 cranks. So, i increased the crank time to get it started in the morning but it now overcranks my car if i start it when its warm.
I am taking it back to the installer in like 2-3 weeks but just wanted to get a better feel of what to ask him to do. So, does he just need to hook up the RPM learning/voltage check (or tach learning) in order to get the car started up everytime no matter the temperature?
Basically, i want my car to try and start itself as long as it needs to and STOP once the cars starts without having to keep changing the crank time manually. So, one, is this possible, and two if so then do i just need to have him connect the tach learning wire?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, tachless is not always very accurate, especially depending on HOW he hooked it up. You need to get your installer to hook up the tach and program crank time for around 1 - 2 seconds tops - it's practically a new car, it should start the first time most everytime, even in the extreme cold.

If i have him hook up the tach will that allow the car to try and start itself for up to say 2 seconds to have it start as well as if it starts sooner it will stop cranking once the car starts?? This is what i want because right now i'm stuck to prgram the crank time for like 2 seconds but if i use the remote starter if the car is warm and the car starts sooner than 2 seconds, it over cranks which i don't want!
Ok see, that is what i thought! Then i need to have him change that when i go back to him then. Why the heck would he set it up this way then? Is it just because he was lazy and didn't want to take the time to find the tach source?
As for my car taking that many times to start up, that car only has 11k miles on it and has been like this since i got it. There is no abnormal engine noises or vibrations or anything. It just takes a little longer when its cold. My commute is VERY short though. I only drive 3 miles to the train station and back and my car never really gets run for longer than 12-15 mins except on the weekends so i don't think the battery ever gets fully charged back up.
I increased the crank time to 2 seconds and it still didn't start this morning, but the temperature was 18 degrees so that didn't help!

So i had the installer hook up the tach wire to i think the fuel injector as he said that is all he can find. I go to start it up when it was warm and it startups just fine. It sits over night and i go to start it in the morning and it doesn't start, the crank time wasn't long enough. So i read the manual and it sas to change it from "low check" to "high check" if the crank time isn't long enough. So i do that. The next morning, when its cold again, i go to start it up, and it still won't crank long enough to start the fricking car.
What do i do? What did the installer not do right, does he need to connect it to something else? I am ready to just tell him to forget it and take it off cause i'm fed up with this thing. Any suggestions? Would doing another Tach learn help at all?

neg. side of the inj. is typically the best to use for a tach source when using a remote start. (neg. side of the ign coil can be used as well but i prefer and have had beter luck with the inj. pulse) to me, it sounds like you might need to have your battery checked. a proper tach source will crank the vehicle until is starts and that's it. if it needs 2 durations, or if it needs 5 when it's really cold, but this is held in memory with the battery voltage. so for ex. if your car cranks a little longer when it's cold and your battery voltage drops down to say 11.5 or 10 volts just for a sec. before it starts, your remote start might be losing it's tach setting that was programmed by the installer. it's just something else you can check. just because your car is newer doesn't necessarily mean the batery is good. i also have a 01 bmw that i bought new and the batery in it was shot at under 5k miles...if you got an install guide along with an owners manual with your purchase you can reset the tach yourself, just follow the directions. also on many remote starters, if your not getting enough voltage from your neg. tach source, before setting it you can raise up the rpm's a little by gently depressing the gas pedal, try for example another 500 rpm over your warm idle speed. this might do the trick as well. good luck.
ever notice how it takes longer to start the car when cold without remote start? ive heard and read its an emissions thing. i have an autopage 720 and it starts no problem unless its been sitting for a bit. the same thing when starting with the key.
im also running an optima yellow top and its the same. unless the features have changed, once its hooked up to the tach, if it doesnt start the first time it will try again.
