03TL-S Stereo upgrade

This will be for a 03 TL-S with NAV
Not looking for competition sound, just good improvement over stock.
Don’t want tons of bass, just deep tones well balance with vocals and highs
Have a budget of about 800.00USD including labor for installation if needed.
I would also like to incorporate IPOD with a hard wire interface to the AUX of the stock HU.

What’s up guys, time has come to change up my system. This is what I want to do:

1.Keep OEM Head Unit
2.Replace all door speakers (front with Component/ rear with 2 ways?)
3.Keep stock sub
4.Purchase new amp to power new door speakers (potentially stock sub as well)

My research shows that many of you have kept your stock HU and added amps to power new speakers, based on my search and extensive reading.

I also know that you have change your door speakers, some just front, some all. Also, read about the DX6 Project for those looking to do minimal work with some descent improvement. I’m looking for better and willing to do some extra work in order to obtain the results I’m looking for.

Also, that we have an issue with the signal amplification and over compensation for highs, via the stock EQ. I’ve read some bits and pieces on what’s the best way to bypass the stock EQ in order to gain a clean signal to the new AMP.

These are my questions based on items 1 -4 above:

1.How do I successfully bypass the EQ and send a good signal to the new AMP? Can you please provide instructions on how to successfully complete this?

2.Can I use the existing low level signal from the stock HU to the stock amp to power the stock SUB with this set up? Or just get a 5channel amp to power the Sub as well?

3.Which component speaker is “shallow enough” to replace the stock speakers? And is of good quality Focal, MB Q, Infinity, etc.

4.Is a two way coaxial good to replace the rear speakers?

5.Have you had to use dynamat in your doors for the new speakers? Any other special requirements?

Thanks!

Sigh... you ask for instructions on how to install a complex and poorly-designed system.

It's your system... you figure it out.

My suggestions:

1) The OEM sub will pretty much sound like ass, especially with a better amplifier.

2) Shallowness isn't the limitation on door speakers, it's your magnet diameter and depth together, along with spacers that you can make or mods to the OEM spacer, along with your ability to use a $20 pair of tin snips to enlarge the speaker hole if need be.

3) Rear speakers are a Communist threat to our American way of life.

4) I would use the balanced preouts from the HU to the stock amp to drive the new amp.

5) No one HAS to damp their doors. Helps tons.

Keep reading... lot more info out there.

elduderino, based on my reading and coming across quite a few of your post, I was expecting your added colorful comments, with a healthy doze of good feedback.

Based on your wealth of knowledge and experience, which component speaker do you recomdend, based on your feedback for my front doors, that will allow for a somewhat comfortable fit.

Thanks for your feedback.
