02' headunit in a 00' TL
Just wonder if it would work. I like the stock headunit just want the added CD's. I know Acura would charge me $500.00 plus install if its possible to swicth. Any one else care to comment? Remember i want to keep my car factory.

That's a pretty cool idea.
500 bucks is kind high, however if people are willing to spend $350 to get clear tails, I would be willing to spend that much on a new HU.
I've seen a couple pictures of the new HU, and they seem to have made a few cosmetic improvements on it as well.
Seems like it would be possible to do as long as it fits.

i checked with them on that, and was told it could not be done because the 6 disc in dash changer requires much more room behind that dash... I tend to believe them with this, a 6 disc changer does need more room in general...

tell you guys a great news for those who want the in dash CD-changer. It is doable!!
I will have mine in the very short time. The dealer has got my CD-changer and they say it requries more spaces, therefore, they have to change the cd holder as well. So if you want the changer, you have to order the holder as well!

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just install an aftermarket Alpine CD changer? And I thought since the in-dash CD changer is going to take up the whole deck, the amplification for the speakers is going to be a separate amp, like the CLS. Just a thought.

Man o' Man let us know how that goes.. that is DEFINATELY something I want to do.. I just found out I can do the same to my Accord.. get the changer put in it.. if I can do that to a '00 TL, that is the next thing going. Time to spend another paycheck.
So cost is what.. $500 for the HU and parts for the cd-holder, no new fascia or anthing right ?? And it's still Bose crap so it hooks right in with the stock EQ and Amp I suppose ??
*anxiously awaiting status*

To answer your question: YES, it does work. I have done this with my '02 Headunit. I put it into my '00TL without any problems and its working fine. I replaced my '02 audio system completely and decided not to waste a perfectly good cd changer. Everything works including the steering wheel controls, and the fit is perfect since its the same exact size.

So you didn't have to get a new CD holder thingy (assuming if you didn't have Nav)?
Did you do the install yourself or an audio place did it for you?
But dang 500 bones is high jus to get a CD changer. Know anyone else who has a 02 TL and is changing out the stock HU??

i had the shop do it cuz they were moving stuff out of my 00 and into the 02TL, so it made no sense to waste my time, but its not complicated at all... its a straight swap.
i don't think 500 is a lot, considering that the dealer will charge you $400-800 to install the 6 cd-changer in the trunk of your 99-01TL. If you compare it to an aftermarket alpine with adpater, you can probably save a couple of hundred, but this gives you the changer inside, and you dont have to worry about anything rolling in the trunk and smashing the changer... that being said, i have two alpine changers in my trunk, and they've seen their share of abuse.. all scratched up outside , but working beautifully where it matters

FYI, I e-mailed Jens to find out whether a CL-S in-dash would plug into a TL. His reply was:
That sucks, cause I could have gotten a deal on the CL-S radio.
Unfortuanately the two radios are not the same.TL radios use inboard amplifiers to drive the speakers CL radios use both an external amplifier and an external equalizer to drive the speakers. As it stands if it where my choice I would wait save up the money and go for better equipment all around. Although the factory radio/speakers are good equipment for a factory job in the end if you really enjoy music upgrading to a high end audio system would be my choice. Jens

Yeah, i tried to get the CL-s radio also and was told they would not work.
I was just quoted $827.00 plus tax for 02' TL head unit ! I guess i won't get one of these unless i find one in the junk yard! Man that sucks!
Jens or wayneg, how much do you guys sell the 02' TL headunits for?

I know this is the wrong topic but the CL-S wheels do fit on the TL. My dealer did this with a 2001 along with other things like an exhaust, body kit and spoiler. The reason why he said they wouldn't fit is because of the offset.

Oh, also, the dealer tried to install a 6 pack indash changer for me but it doesn't work. Therefore, I was thinking that probably they got the CL-S one 'coz we have a friend here on this forums saying it'll work, right? So if it is a TL-S head unit, it will work on a 2000 TL, right?

I was just wondering if you eventually got your cd changer done?

Well, I just discovered that the '01 CL-S radio has different connectors then the '00 TL. Physical size is identical; the CD-holder/(climate control for NAV cars) is not affected in the least. Anyone successfully adapted the CL-S stereo to the TL? I can't see why there'd be a difference in the stereos between the CL a nd TL. The cars are identical from the dash forward, anyway. HELP!!

Hello All,
I am currently searching for the 6disc indash cd changer to try out in my 99TL wich is not far from the '00 as far as dimentions. I will do what ever is possible to get the radio in as long as it does not destroy anthything under the dash... I will keep you posted...
