$525 avelectonic unit is actually modified $125 "anaba?"
I'm thinking about buying one of these units from avelectronic.com, and I did some poking around on the web. Basically, it looks like avelectronic is taking these units:
http://www.sweetronicsstore.com/mobi...-uts-1300.html
and modifying them to output RGBs for our TL screens, they end up with a cable coming out of them, see this picture.

So, is that modification worth $400? My opinion is no, but that's just my opinion. If anyone has a unit from avelectronic and wouldn't mind opening it up to find out where they soldered in the wires, I'd love to know.
Thanks!

Also the avelectronic AV switcher:

looks to be based on this:

Sweet find christur!!
Please someone chime in with a way that we can use this instead of the $525 AV box. I too see no reason in spending that much, especially if you don't have too.
Proposed things we would need in addition to the box:
1- Relay switch to flip back to the Nav screen
2- Harness that allows us to tap into the factory nav unit.
3- Wiring info as christur mentioned

FYI, this unit is made by some taiwan, INC company and is sold under various brands: mobile authority, anaba, optiview and others. The model number is always the same: UTC-1300.

i dont even see how you are compairing the two units.. one is a tv tuner (can easily be bought for less than $100 on the web)... and the avelectronics all in one (tv tuner, rgb converter, fm modulator hint the reason its $525)... i would say it is worth every penny...

Uh, what? The $125 unit above has an FM modulator, TV tuner with diversity, remote control and source switching. It has every features of the $525 avelectronic unit, except RGBs output.
The question is, what did they do to it to get RGBs out? If they have some active electronics in the box to do conversion from composite to RGBs, then yes, I'd agree with you that it's worth more than $125.
But I suspect that they just found points on the board, soldered in leads, called it "special" and marked it up 400%.
Could someone with an avelectronic unit PLEASE take the cover off, snap a picture and post it here? That should settle this.
Thanks!

well yes there is more to converting composite video to rgb then just soldering a couple wires on the board.. you are going to need a IC chip that will convert the different video signals (composet to rgb).. also you have to look at quality of components being used.. i would bet that the components avelectronics are using are of higher quality of those in the units producted in taiwan... then you have to look at supply and demand.. they are really one of the only companies making this type of unit.. streeteffectz use to make one but i believe i seen him doing a group by on the avelectronics units.. if they are good enough for streetz then they are good enough for me.. but if you dont want to pay the money you can always go try to find one of the pioneer rgb1 then buy a seperate fm modulator and a tv tuner.. or you can buy the pioneer gex-7000tv... and modify it yourself.. my personal outlook it this unit is all in one and ready to go into your car... less hassle worth the extra money to me..

There is a lot involved in converting the above unit to make it function as a composite to RGB video decoder. There are both H and V sync signals that need to be combined into ONE signal for starters. That, in itself, either requires building a circuit or a special chip to do it. On top of that, each AVelectronic unit is "tuned" to that specific car. For instance, you can't order the unit for an Infinity and expect it to work in the Acura....not because of the plug and play adapters, but because the video signal is set to that particular car as they vary from vehicle to vehicle. On top of all that, you need to figure out how to take the 3 video inputs and make them output, seperately, to the screen, through the new circuit that was just constructed.......
So yea, I think the $500 or so for the AVelectronic piece is well worth it...that just my opinion though

I'm not up on my RGB but I can tell you the ANABA unit and AVelectronic look the same and have the same features, with the exception of the RGB converter. I did a navi-to-video in my 02 tls using an RGB decoder sold is Austrailia. It was 125 plus a few bucks for some relays, etc. For 175 you can do it and just get video. I used a Blitsafe as an auk input through a David Navone Engineering electronic AV switcher. The setup is really trick. Just two little switches, 1 for navi or DVD and the other for DVD audio or XM Audio. So I saved a little money and had fun doing it myself, it depends what you are looking for.
