Navigation - After TLX Update - What does this symbol mean?

Navigation - Upper Left Corner

Hi All,

I happened to notice this symbol on my navi screen and don't recall it being there prior the software update. Can anyone tell me what the white box with the green "refresh" arrows and 46% mean?

Thanks!

I believe it takes 6 hours of driving for the update to complete. When it completes, this should disappear.

Oh! You mean the car is still downloading or installing the update, Steve? I've noticed changes to the radio controls, so that must be a separate installation routine in the update, I'm guessing?

What happens when it gets to 100%? lol

Yeah. I think the update pauses when the car is turned off and picks up again where it left off when you start the car again. I know there is a list of the updates somewhere. I just remember the updates to the soft buttons and some HFL stuff. I know there are other updates in that package.

From what I remember reading, the update is placed on a partition on your HDD that you cannot access. It runs from there to update the vehicle. Amazing technology.

Hopefully at 100% the icon disappears and everything still works.

I believe it is the map database that is being updated, so there is no loss of functionality while it is in progress.

That is exactly right. The update is still finishing in the background only when the car is running. Once the update is completed that status monitor will disappear.

I wish Acura could provide updates every month when you purchase an updated Navi disk/info with DVD based systems. I don't see why it couldn't be a 12 month subscription and you renew it once a year online.

I am sure that they could, but the cycle of updates is done annually. A car built at the start of the year will only be one version different from a car built at the end of the year.

Not to mention, updating the amount of data involved in the Navi system would be prohibitive, that's multiple GB per car.

I just kinda sucks to spend that much $$ for a once a year update and find out there are little to no changes in your area for another year. That is one reason why I only update about every 3rd year. Acura could still use the USB connection to upload the latest Navi data once you download from the internet using you VIN/Navi ID to verify your subscription. Hand held Navi devices seemed to figured this out?

I wish that vehicle software could be done OTA as well. There's still a few changes I'd like to see with some of the climate control options.

Is Acura open to suggestions on this? I'd like to see the recirculate/fresh button be a toggle, rather than a pop up. They should be able to make fresh air with a green light in it, and recirc with an orange. It's annoying to have to make two presses for this.

Don't get me started on software-based "buttons" and hard buttons. The non-toggling binary decision buttons annoy me, as well. One way I got around this is create a shortcut for my preferred climate settings that included the recirculate button being "on". Now when I get in the car, I just hit that shortcut and it also takes care of the problem where I forget to hit recirculate in city traffic and only remember when a diesel dump truck or something blasts its fumes straight into my AC.

could have rotaries instead of the toggles for temperature - then the middle of the rotaries could be for auto climate on/off and the other for recirc. House proper buttons for the heated seats either on the console or above the touch screen and voila - all need for touch screen climate controls gone. Hint...look at the CRV....

Okay, so surprisingly, after two days and me being in the car less than 1.5 hours the download icon went to 100% and disappeared. Talk about anticlimactic; I was expecting something to happen.

Was that OTA download just for road updates or did something actually change?

I was going to ask you the same question.

Although I do remember there is a post here on what was updated. I remember you can change the order of your audio sources, but forgot the other.

No wonder my MPG was so much lower after the update. My dealership probably left my car running rather than hook up a battery charger for the 90+ minutes.

The updates require the cars to be on for at least 90 minutes to get the full update though the satellites above us, with clear paths. Those numbers reflect the percentage of completion to the process after you leave the dealership.
