iPhone 6 or iOS 8.1 issue with BT calling.

Ever since the update that included apple pay, 8.1 or 8.1.1 my bluetooth phone functionality has been messed up. Basically, I will initiate or pick up a call, and within a few seconds, I'll here that "call ended" tone from the car, and the audio is set back to my phone. The navi screen says "no phone connected", and then after a few more seconds it will come back through bluetooth. And then the cycle starts over.

I use my phone in my wifes new Grand Cherokee and haven't had any of these issues. My phone worked fine in my car before these updates. My phone streams music via BT perfectly fine. Anyone else have this issue?

That sucks it's happening to you too. I'm glad I'm not the only one though. I'm going to see if deleting the phone from my car and repairing helps.

Add me to the list too. Sounds like an iOS issue, not the Acura HFL.

I don't ever initiate calls from the HFL....however I've noticed that sometimes changing the track on my phone won't work from the car's controls (both steering wheel and knob on the center stack). It's really annoying, not sure if it is from iOS or my 09 TL base. My Samsung Note 2 worked fine.

Has anyone found a definitive fix for this? I am not personally experiencing it as I am still on the iPhone 5, but I know someone who is experiencing the exact same symptoms as OP on an iPhone 6 with a 2012 w/tech.

8.1.2 update came out last night. Installed it at work. I'm going to test the phone on my drive home tonight.

the update did not fix the issue. The phone will not function properly. When receiving a call the handsfree will ring, and I can pick up the call, but after a few seconds the audio goes back to teh phone with that "phone discount" sound. The screen will say no paired phone has been found. Then it'll reconnect. It does this multiple times per call. Basically it's worthless.

When making a call it will do the same thing. Ring and initiate through handsfree, but within a few words, it'll disconnect and say no phone found. Going to try deleting the phone and re-pairing it later today before leaving work.

I deleted my phone from the car's system, and then removed the hands free link connection from my phone. Re-paired the phone and tried it. I still have the same issue. The call lasted longer than before, but would still drop out in the middle of the call and then reconnect. Don't know what to do at this point.

I have an Iphone 6 Plus w/ 8.1.2 . I can call out and receive calls with no issue from the HFL. The only issue I have would be if I tried to dial from my phone says it connected to BT but nothing happens lol. I shouldn't be using the phone while driving anyways.

This issue is so weird. It's definitely something that is intermittent, at least with my car/phone. I can go a full week without having one problem whatsoever and then go for two days straight with connection issues on almost every single incoming and outgoing call. Sometimes it's just initially, either when I make or answer a call, once the person on the other end picks up it will bump right back to the HFL and all is well. Sometimes it will drop off the HFL connection two or three times during a 10 minute call.

I am having the exact same issue with my 2013 RDX - calls fade out and I get a message that no phone is connected, a few seconds later I am able to return to the call. I have tried deleting and re-pairing with my RDX, resetting all of my network settings and restoring my iPhone 6. None of those options had any effect and I am really annoyed.

Unparing problem of iPhone 6 with 2012 TL fixed!

I had the same problem as the original poster. Just upgraded to an iPhone 6 and downloaded the latest IOS 8.1.2 and found that the phone would become "unpaired" within seconds of connecting either an incoming or outgoing call, message popping up that no phone was paired, only to be re-paired and re-connected almost instantly without my doing anything. This would happen several times during the call.

Fix I found that seems to have worked:
(1) iPhone Settings>Reset>Reset All Settings
(2) Unpair or delete phone from BT in my TL
(3) Power iPhone back on
(4) Settings>Reset>Reset Network Settings
(5) Re-pair phone with BT

Minimal re-setting of preferences on iPhone once this was done. It's fine so far and no more unpairings. Tested with 20 min BT call w/o problems.

Just two threads down right now:

https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-b...g-link-923548/

Android users including myself are reporting the same problem. For us android guys, the solution was to turn off/disable WIFI while in the car. Our phones disconnected the call temporarily when a new "WIFI network available" was detected while driving.

Give it a try. Disable wifi before you get in the car and see if calls continue to get dropped.

I'm going to try this when I get a chance and feel like resetting a bunch of preferences. In the mean time:

I stumbled on this thread ^^^ too, discussing similar issues with Android phones. While I was on a call on the HFL today the call dropped off. I quickly turned off my WiFi and the call immediately came back to the HFL. It could have just been coincidental since calls usually come back to the HFL pretty quickly but I am going to practice turning off my WiFi whenever I'm in the car and seeing if it makes a difference. I suggest others experiment with this too and report back.

Small sample size but on my 30 minute drive to work this morning I had no issues with the HFL after turning WiFi off.

1 full week in the books and I have not had a single issue with the HFL dropping a call. At this point, I would say it's confirmed that turning off the wifi alleviates this issue entirely. It's strange that this issue is widespread over both Apple and Android devices. I'd like to say it's entirely the fault of the HFL system but it didn't seem to be an problem until the latest generation of smart phones started coming out.

Interesting. I just upgraded my 5S to a 6 this past week and have been having the same issues. Has anyone notified Apple and or Acura support? Seems odd that this is happening all of a sudden.

Same issue with iOS 8.3. Just read on another post that turning off WiFi may fix the issue.

Turning off Wifi definitely works but very annoying.

Hoping next version of iOS update will resolve this.

I'm still just turning off my wifi when I get in the car. It's almost second nature at this point. Have yet to have a call drop off the HFL when wifi is turned off.

Genuis Needed to Solve this Problem

Hi:

I'm the one who figured out -- in the other thread -- that disabling the Wi-Fi will stop the problem but as everyone has noted it's annoying to need to do this every time you enter and leave the car.

Has anyone figured out if it's the phone, the HFL or a combination? It must be a combination but if it's the OS as some suggest why do only a relatively few # of people experience the issue?

Why does it happen with iPhones and, apparently, all androids -- but only a few within each manufactured phone.

So people can have the same make and model of phone and same make and model of car yet only a FEW experience the problem?

There's been a new OS since this thread started. It made no difference.

I got 2 new phones since this happened -- 2 HTC's and I just got a Samsung Galaxy. I have the same issue.

Acura replaced the HFL module but it made no difference.

I've been referred to a tech at Honda who specializes in HFL and he never heard of the issue and doesn't know what causes it. He thought it was the OS. That's when I had Kit Kat. Lollipop made no difference.

If it's the OS it's not going to be fixed because not enough people are complaining. But how could it be the OS when it only happens to a relatively small % of people and the iPhone does the same thing -- but again only to a small %! There are millions of people who have Hondas, Acura's, Androids and iPhones but relatively few who experience this problem.

WHY? GENIUS NEEDED!

The vast, vast majority of people never complain. That does not mean a problem only happens to those who do complain. And what data do we even have? This rather obscure thread on an obscure website (obscure for 99.9% of Acura owners)? I'm pretty sure if you do a survey and ask people whether they ever had any problem with their Bluetooth, you'll get a pretty high incidence rate. Other than that, it's not like Honda is ever going to release complaint stats anytime soon.
