I just bought myself some pro camera equipment. Canon 30D DSLR, 3 lenses, and a heavy duty tripod. So I will definitely get a bunch of pics too.

As far as hotel's go, if we're going to head to 6th street (which I assume is a standard "downtown" "college row" type bar district) it would be best to find a hotel in WALKING distance (preferably with a secure-ish parking lot for our rides ).

Also, we should plan for a "spirited" cruise and a "relaxed" cruise, either at the same time or one sat one sun...just an idea.

county line is good, but a bit pricy IMO. Their parking lot is also made of dirt/gravel/grass

Tentative Schedule: (feedback appreciated)

------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday 1/13-
-?? - 10:30am - Drive to Austin
-10:30 - 11am - Gather at Starbucks (location/directions will be provided)
-11am - 1pm - Hill Country Drive
-1p - 2pm - Lunch (see below)
-2pm - 6pm - Hotel check-ins, wash cars, relax and hang out with friends. Maybe have a mini-meet at one of the hotels?
-6pm - 8pm - Dinner Downtown Austin
-8pm - ?? - Party on 6th Street
-8pm - optional Home Depot Car Meet
-?? - drive home for some people
------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday 1/14-
-Checkout from Hotels
-Breakfast in Austin
-Drive home
-Optional: -Drive to Fredericksburg for brunch/lunch and wine tasting.
-12noon Lunch
-2pm - Drive Home. to dallas ~4hours
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that we should start the drive NO EARLIER than 11am. The folks coming from Dallas will need about 3-3.5 hours to get to Austin. I don't want to make anyone get up too early.

We can make a 12:30-1pm lunch time while on the drive or when the drive is over. Final lunch location and time still being discussed.

Then after lunch everyone will have time to go wash off any cars, if needed. If some people want to go sightsee or hang out that afternoon they can. If people have hotels for the night they can go check-in and relax before the evening events.

Is the car meet in the Home Depot parking lot still going on in Austin on Saturday nights? This would be a good option for some people to do if they don't want to party that evening.

We should plan on dinner around 6pm and then let the evening festivities grow from there. Any recommendations on a place downtown for us to gather and eat dinner?

Once everyone has had a chance to digest this and provide any modifications or suggestions I will repost the final schedule. Lets spend this next week doing this part.

Looks good so far Mark. Unfortunatley, the Home Depot show got canned earlier this year. Supposedly folks are meeting at a Hooters now, but I will have to check into that.

Excellent feedback!

We can work in the photoshoot either during the drive or after lunch. Maybe something later in the day to give folks time to prep their cars after the drive down and the hillcountry drive (if needed--no bugs in the winter time! that's usually a plus!). If we do a late day shot we might get a good sunset background!

Think of a spot you'd like to do it and fits in with the schedule. I appreciate you focusing on the photoshoot!

I think there was one guy who said he drives one and that he might come. I will ask an old friend who drives one and knows others and see if he wants to come.

Question about people who will do a hotel Saturday night:
We can stay close to 6th St but we'll have to spend more money. Rates are $150 - $240 for things like Embassy Suites, Omni, Capital Hotel.

We can stay up in Roundrock at the Embassy Suites there and its $129 if we get enough rooms to book. I like Embassy Suites because the rate includes a fully cook continental breakfast for free. Their rooms are suites so you can do a little entertaining in them. You can also sleep additional people in the room for ~$5-$10 more on the rate. This is also close to where we start the drive and its in the Galleria area for shopping. There are restaurants all around this area and a big club right next door too.

There is the Hampton Inn on 2nd St (3 blocks away from 6th St.) that we can get a $109 group rate on a standard room. That also includes breakfast for free. You can get a suite for $129 with a pullout couch bed.

So these are some ideas. Let me know if this seems to be too pricey. I want to get lower rates but at that point you are dealing with standard hotels, not downtown.

All group rates start with 10 rooms as a minimum. So if we can't get 10 rooms then the rates go up about 10-15%.

i love parking garages but 20+ cars is a LOT to have on top and fit all into the frame. i will search for a nice downtown area background where we might be able to meet up at. i think the photo should have an "austin" background. just a thought. 420 i love the city lights on that one garage.

I'd like to recommend The Iron Cactus restaurant in downtown Austin. Its Mexican food and and an excellent choice of tequilas and margaritas. They have live bands here and its a good starting point for the rest of the night.

See http://www.ironcactus.com/default.asp for more info. I'll call shortly to reserve tables once I get your feedback.

not enough parking saturday night in downtown austin for so many cars, especially at iron cactus.

we would all have to get there very early, park at a lot on 8th/trinity, and each pay $8 to park. even then, we may not all fit.

we would all have to get there very early, park at a lot on 8th/trinity, and each pay $8 to park. even then, we may not all fit.
i frequent downtown and if everyone is going around 6 (according to the schedule) we will find free meter parking. Even though it might be 3-4 blocks away i think it will be there. I agree that parking all of us around 9-10, when the other 1000 people decide to go to 6th, will NOT happen. Parking is a bitch down there later in the night. Even then, how many will show at the Iron Cactus?

DYI, all of us parking at meters on the street will create a lot of attention to our cars because of all the Acuras. And our cars have a high chance of getting tampered with. I suggest find a parking area not meter parking.

Actually, the garage at the Omni, while $7 a pop, always has plenty of room to park, and has roaming security. They are right at 8th and San Jacinto-so not bad at all.

The Viper club is having there X-Mas party at the north Iron Cactus

Just a suggestion: if we are going downtown to eat then go drinking i would say take taxis. The most i spent on a taxi was when i was coming from mine/mybrothers house(HWy 71 oak hill area) and that was like 25 to get downtown and 25 back. Makes things safer in my oppion.
