Real quad exhaust project

Real quad exhaust project
Time has come to give my ZDX a real quad exhaust with a more serious sound and output. I really like the stock exhaust tips, hard to custom make anything better, so I decided to do something without getting rid of them.
First I disassembled the exhaust tips to see how it looks. Luckly the reflector in the inner section (which I already wrapped with black vinyl from outside) was easy to disconnect. The tip itself is held on four bolts.
The only option for quad exhaust I could imagine was to meld a custom formed tin with the inner section of exhaust tip like in its outer section so there would be a nice place for additional exhaust pipe. It would also require cutting the plastic frame that once held the reflector in its place.
A local custom exhaust shop agreed to do this along with the whole project and they did it nicely.
Cutting the plastic frame was easy.
And the exhaust tips return to their place perfectly.
The exhaust tip suffered minor damage because of melding in certain spots which is barely visible actually. Maybe later I'll wrap it with chrome or gray 3D carbon vinyl but it looks fine so far.
In a couple of weeks the whole custom exhaust parts will be ready and the ZDX will become really mean. So far I ordered
the part of exhaust starting from the end of the J-pipe. Its gonna be 70mm pipe with the last cat replaced by a flame trap, main resonator and mufflers also replaced with flame traps, and ending with two 60mm pipes on each side
Later I plan to get a J-pipe from RV6 once they finish it, and decide something about the main two cats near the engine.

With a greater delay the exhaust is finally finished, a little bit crude but its inevitable when you do a non-factory system
That thing is pretty loud now, I'm worried that my wife will execute me Will post a video soon
Fow now, the pics
This once was a catalizer, now its not

Here is the video
In 'drive' it sounds even louder, I think I'm going to tune the loudness down a little. Also because of the split exhaust tip it whistles like a turbo in full throttle, so no matter how funny it is I'm gonna fix that too

Have you considered not making into dual pipes until closer to the rear?
The car doesn't sound horrible, but I wouldn't say I'm a big fan of the sound currently.
I would suggest staying single tube (2.5") and getting rid of that muffler that goes 1-2. Run that all the way back to where the two single resonators are, and put a y-split there, out to the two small mufflers/cans you have now.

On the road its way louder than in park mode revving
I'm going to optimize some things in the exhaust but the idea will be the same

Well, you can replace that 1-2 muffler, and replace it with a single muffler that stays 2.5" without splitting into 2 pipes. Just a suggestion, I've gone through many, many exhaust setups and found that's been one of the better ways to get a fuller exhaust note out of V6's.

I ended up leaving it as it was, only changed mid-section pipe to 57mm (this lowered the drone and made the sound a bit more quiet), but planning to get an RV6 J-pipe in April-May, which will probably affect the sound again

Agreed. I'm pricing out Vossen wheels now since I think that setup mugen_kid did was stellar. Not much of a price difference between 22s to 20s. Anyway, didn't want to jack your tread on this. Thanks for all the pics on the setup incase I do end up going the same route.

There are not enough ZDX video's on youtube!! I want to see some driving video's as well. I wish Windingroadmagazine would drive this car. They do 10+ minute POV road tests with mixed driving!!

waiting for RV6 j-pipe arrival in May most likely it will get a bit louder again
probably will get a bigger main resonator too to reduce the noise if it gets too loud
will try to make a in-car video today

That would be awesome cannot wait to see. Looking at your pictures makes me regret not getting white sometimes it looks so good on the ZDX really shows off the glass roof.
