Switching gear position sensor on Acura TL 07 Base
I’m getting the symptoms of a bad Gear Position Sensor. (Flashing D, check engine light)
havent seen to many threads on 07-08 TL
Question I have is when replacing the sensor should the car be placed in P or N?
read many forums where your suppose to place car in N prior since the part is in Neturel when purchased. but I jus wanted to make sure I do it right.
if anyone replaced recently or just in general please help. Gotta replace sensor before road trip.
Thank you

If everything is telling you to put it in neutral without any conflicting information, then I think it's safe to put it in neutral. I would hope you would block off your tires first though.
Secondly, I would get the code read on the engine light, and also see if you can read the transmission code before throwing parts at it.

But im getting P1717 which is the sensor, and what do you mean when you say “block off tires”
i know I have to remove front tire prior to getting to the sensor.
Thank you

Block off the tires, as in support the vehicle to ensure it doesn't roll at all while you have it lifted. Unless you're putting it on a hoist. In addition to blocking off the tires, using the handbrake will help as well to ensure it stays put.
