Exclamation oil

just beware that there are only 2 synthetic oils on the market witch cover the rdx oil application for the additive . read my previous post i deal with all oil companies that make certain oils for cars most cars require different additives that other synthetics don't have. NOT ALL SYNTHETIC OIL'S ARE THE SAME . EVERY BRAND HAS IT'S ON FORMULA AND ADDITIVES SOME ARE MADE JUST FOR CERTAIN CARS. read my one post youtube ERIC THE CAR GUY OIL . VERY VERY INFORMATIVE A MUST SEE. will explain everything that this threads about !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ideal with lot or oil reps that have turned me on to alot of inside info on there and many other company products

Just wanted to add my thanks to the folks who've contributed to this thread. I just changed the oil on my 08 RDX for the first time and it was as easy as advertised. So much different than my old Saturn (where I had to remove the front right tire to access the horizontally mounted oil filter, which then spilled oil all over the suspension components).

Thought I'd add that there's about a week left in a pretty good Mobil 1 rebate. $15 off oil/filter, or $12 off oil. I got a $25 jug of EP 5W-30 at Walmart and just got my $12 rebate check (already had the M1 filter via Amazon). Can't beat an oil change for under $25...

Sorry if it's been asked before I didn't see it addressed though, but I've got a question.
I've got an 09 RDX, I live in Canada, so prices will be a bit different than you're used to.

I see people suggesting using Mobile1 5w30 oil for their RDX vs. other brands. I'm curious why, I look up the prices, at Wal-Mart, 4L of Mobile1 Synthetic 5w30 is about $30, while 4L of other brands such as Castrol Edge Synthetic is quite a bit more ($50 for a 4L jug)

Any particular reason for this?

I just use whatever HT06 approved oil that is cheapest at WalMart. Yesterday, I bought a jug of Castrol Syntec Edge for $22.97 USD that was on sale at Wally's.

Thought I'd bump the thread for the Mobil 1 rebate that started up again: https://mobiloil.com/en/promotion/mo...nd-mobil-super

Runs through May 31 -- $15 off 5 qts + filter or $12 off 5 qts. Last time I got my rebate check within 2-3 weeks.

Thanks for the heads up. However, Walmart is not on their list of participating retailers. Anyone have success with this promo after buying from them?

Yep, last time around I bought the 5 qt. jug at Walmart and got the rebate. I've heard they'll accept an Amazon receipt as well.

Just finished doing my first oil change for my 2011 RDX over the weekend. Wasn't hard as everyone said, except for, and it is a major except for, you need an exact 65mm filter cap to get the darn oil filter off. At least I did. I have two oil filter wrench things, both way too big, a strap oil filter wrench, which I couldn't get to work because of the oil filter metal housing. Rode my bike to get a filter cap that fit and ended up buying a 65/67mm cap. Yup, you guessed it, it kept slipping off. I was going to do the old screwdriver puncture procedure, but didn't want oil all over the place. The 20 minute oil change turned into a two hour fiasco as I am riding my bike to auto parts stores to exchange filter caps. Man, was I swearing at everyone on this forum for not telling me this one minor detail. All in all, the new oil filter was now put on hand tight along with the oil plug. Next time, it should not be as hard to get these off. Though next time probably won't be for another year. Next up, the brake fluid exchange. Any pointers needed?

I found that exact fit caps is waste of time and money. Good oil filter pilers work the best.

That was going to be my next choice if the oil filter cap didn't work. It has been about 10 years since I had changed my own oil in a car so I guess it was a get the proper tools experience. Was nice to have the drain plug and oil filter basically right there. Just jacked up the car a couple of inches (with stands) to give me more room to grunt with the two items to loosen. Now I will do my girlfriends 2010 Honda CRV this weekend. Similar setup for the most part.

Just another random oil rebate tip: Pennzoil is running a $2 off per quart rebate through the end of the year. Their 5 qt. 5w-30 full synthetic jug is about $22 on Amazon if you use Subscribe & Save...after rebate it's around $12 and you can't beat that. I used this earlier in the year and downloaded the PDF version of the invoice off of Amazon, uploaded that on the Pennzoil site, and everything worked great. Got the check a few weeks later. Submitted another today for another upcoming oil change (you can get up to $48 back total for the year).

Mobil is still running a rebate offer, too, but I'm not sure you can submit two in the same year.

Exclamation Oil Change Intervals

So, I have been getting around 2k miles and its been around 9 months before the oil change light appears. But my RDX is very modified. I'm using mobile one fully synthetic engine oil along with the engine oil filter also being mobile one branding.

During normal work commute I would get around 6500 before I got to the 5% mark. Last oil change I made it to 5500 (much higher amount of city driving when I'm not making that 50 mile round trip 5 times a week). I would expect my current oil interval to be even fewer miles unless I get back to an office soon, but I don't really care. I do about 1/4 of the driving I used to, and I'm not complaining about all the gas money I'm saving.

Engine Oil Drain Bolt you need a metal washer and a new drain bolt. Make sure you get a five quart oil jug along with another single quart oil jug. You’ll need the other single quart of oil for about a quarter quart short with the five quart jug. Make sure you use the HTO-06 certified mobile one fully synthetic oil as listed on the oil cap, matinence display, matinence book, and acura site. Engine oil filter I used the K&N performance filter that has a nice bolt on the bottom.

high mileage oils have conditioners that swell seals, unless you have oil leak issue there is no reason

no leaks that I am aware of but I already bought the high mileage so I plan to use it unless there is a legitimate reason NOT to.

it will likely be OK, I am not a fan of swelling seals that are perfectly fine and not leaking, its one of those topics people argue about, so there is no clear answer. The car was speced for HTO-6, does it meet it?

No, the high mileage Mobil 1 5w-30 doesn't specifically state that it meets that standard like the regular 5w-30 does.

I changed the oil for the first time on my daughters 2008 RDX, after I was done, the instrument cluster button won't change the "a service needed" message. It doesn't do anything when I have the key in ignition position 2 and press the instrument panel button. The message just stays there. Any ideas on how to get it to actually let me reset the oil life message?

Nevermind, I figured it out. Google was not helpful but the owners manual was!
