Exclamation Wheel help...Sizing, offset and such

So I've been loving the Type S for about 6 mos now and am always looking for "something else" to do with it. I love the Split Y wheels, but, am looking for something else, either super light in a 'smaller size' or something in a 20" to put the Pirelli summer tires on, also maybe lighter?

See, it's a rabbit hole of options! But the biggest question I have is with size and offset. I know the general 48-52 offset that the factory uses!? But, being old like I am, wrapping my head about offset and how it effects the wheel placement is driving me crazy...as many videos as i've watched and PDF's I've looked at, I still am baffled...

If you want a wheel ot come OUT toward the fender edge more, what is the offset you want? What is the smallest size rim you can go with on a Brembo equipped TLX? What is the widest rim you can go with on said car?

I guess just some pointers? Some feedback? It's been DECADES since I lasted messed with this stuff! LOL....I used to build and race cars for years...but it all escapes me these days.

Any help would be appreciated!

If you want flush to the fender I went with a 20x10 with a 40mm offset. The identical flushness can also be had with the oe Y spoke wheels and a 20mm spacer.
wheels I went with are SuperSpeed RF055R and are about 24lbs flow formed and re used the stock Pirellis for now as well. I’ll go wider next set.

Thanks for the info. I did try those spacers and it brought the wheels out a little bit too far. I went with a 275 tire and 5 mm spacers and it looks much better. But I could use another 5 mm or so, and one cent considering Rims I thought I’d do it that route. Then of course, probably lowering the car to fill the gap that was currently filled with the 275 tire.

If you want the wheels to come out towards the fender, you want a lower number offset. I replaced wheels with a +35 offset 20 inch 9 inch wide x4, so close to stock. I put the same size tire on it. I saved 17 lbs per wheel/tire vs the oem multi-spokes. I added 10mm spacers to bring it out a little more, and I think it's pretty good now. I'll put a picture below

Smallest type s wheel size - 19's, I'm not sure 18s would fit
Widest wheel - in the front, 9 or 9.5. 10 starts looks pretty beefy, depending on offset. You can fit up to a 10.5 in the rear
Easy way to see the differences between different offsets and wheel sizes is, use something like tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator

One more thing to consider when changing from oem tire placement: the side of the car curves in. This makes the tire more exposed to the side of the car the further out it goes. You'll end up kicking up debris on your front doors a lot more. Driving through loose rocks is highly discouraged lol

my current fitment as described before, lowered one inch too:

Thanks! That chart helps a bit...give me some ideas on how things move....

Now to just figure out the RIGHT setup without actually being able to mess around in person! LOL. Thinking a 10.5 rear rim, 9.5 front rim, but then the size of tires vs the rim size to 'fit the car'....275? 265? What offset? UGH....soooo many options!

But...did find these: https://kanseiwheels.com/products/ka...32398605221971

Was always wanting TE37's of similar, but...REALLY pricey! These caught my eye...

So doing some calculating on all of this:

Using a 275/40/19:
1. Going with a 40 series tire keep me within .05 of the current height with 275/35/20's.
2. BUT, was hoping for a 'taller' tire to fill the gap a bit more and not making the setup LOOK smaller on the car. I HATE 19's on the standard TLX's. Too small.
3. BUT, there are more SUMMER based tires for that size. Want these summer only.

Using a 275/45/19
1. Gets me .55" gap closure to the fender, probably illuminating the need for springs and filling that gap more than current, which I like BTW.
2. No really SUMMER tires in that size. Or at least nothing really aggressive from what I found vs the 40 series.

If I run the KNP setup, 9.5 front and 10.5 rear, 35 offset, that may look pretty sick, just figuring the right tire size.....

The bottom of the wheel is also increasing in height the more gap closure there is. You're also raising the center of gravity and throwing off the speedo going this route. I'm not sure how the awd system reacts to different size tires. Too many variables to consider. I guess what I getting at is, remember you have to still drive it and enjoy it. For me, if my car is driving weird, I don't want to drive it until it's fixed.

well based on the calculator the mph is .1 to .3 different and the overall is pretty close to what I have now.
