Spare tire-2021 TLX

After waiting for 6 months the spare tire kit has come out and I had it installed.
The air inflator kit does not fit anymore as there is no more room under the trunk cover.
The kit was missing the jack for some reason but the dealer ordered it separately.
Be careful as the spare tire kit comes in 3 versions for the different TLX versions,.

Can't believe the spare tire kit needs 3 versions!

It's just a donut and not even a full spare, right?

The Type-S will need a different version for sure, because the compact rim has to clear the giant Brembo calipers.

I got the donut tire. A regular spare will not fit.

Is the spare/jack Acura or after market?

Just wonder how much difference is the trunk wheel well on the 2G TLX versus the 1G TLX. Can't some of the 1G TLX spare tire parts, such as jack and tools, be used for the 2G TLX ?

OEM, right? Is the tire a Continental?

Does it fit fully in the spare compartment? In other words, does the trunk floor lay flat across the top of the spare?

Does anyone know what size tire would be needed for the spare on the Type S model? I know the kit only comes with the rim and the tools so I would need to purchase the tire separately.

145/60R20

Only tire I found in that size is a Continental.

Yes but simply using the larger wheel size for all would mean only 1 kit needed vs 3....

Based on the owners manual, it looks like they all use the same size tire. The kits have a different part number based on the OEM wheel size, but they might use the same tire size. Which makes no sense.

I know having the spare provides some sense of security. Having had 4 tires and two tlx rims replaced due to different reasons in no case of any did I suffer an immediate flat tire. All ended up being a slow leak. Acura has roadside assistance for 4 years if you have a complete failure. Most times the sensors in the car will alert you of a slow leak way before you need a tow. It's purely a peace of mind thing. Chances are you hit something that takes out the tire you are getting towed as the tire damage is the least of the worries.

It happened to me some years back that a physical spare tire had saved my day twice.

One occasion was that a tire had developed a big bubble on the sidewall, and I wasn't going to risk my life driving with a bubble due to the possibility that the damaged tire might blow out at highway speeds. A new pair of identical tires would take a couple days to come in, and it was my spare tire that allowed me to continue using my car.

Another occasion was a nail punctured near the shoulder of a tire, which couldn't be repair. Once again, my spare tire saved my days while a new tire pair was on order.

For those interested in buying the spare tire kit for their 2021 TLX, Tirerack is having a closeout sale on the Pirelli 20" spare tire for $95.5, which is almost $130 cheaper than the Continental 20" one.

The remaining stock is running low as of this moment.

Already scooped one of those up... too good of a deal to pass up if getting a spare for the TLX Type-S

I believe not just for the Type-S, even all regular 2021 TLX trims are using the same 20" spare tire.

But there are 3 different wheel kits - do all three kits have the same wheel size?

Hardware-wise, all 3 kits are the same. The only difference is the "Tire and Loading Information Label", which is to be stick on top of the existing label at the door jamb.

This new label specifies the inflation tire pressure for 18", 19", and 20" tires respectively (old info), plus the spare tire pressure (new info) as well.

Thanks! This is exactly the info I was looking for as I've been considering this kit. I tried ordering from Acura OEM Parts, but they canceled my order because they said they were unable to receive the parts at this time. I'm assuming it's on backorder then or something, but I don't know why they had to cancel my order for that instead of just shipping me the kit when they could get it? I don't mind waiting if they can do that and give me estimates on when it may arrive. I've since tried placing an order at Acura Parts Warehouse, hoping for better luck there.

I also grabbed one of those Pirelli spares, thanks for the heads up!

^^^^^

I ordered both the $95 tire and the factory 20" spare kit last week. The Pirelli tire is sitting in my garage right now, but the factory kit is still on back order.

You should have good luck with Acura Parts Warehouse... that is where I placed my order from for the spare tire kit and they shipped it out today ... place the order last week on Tuesday, so if your order stats shows processing you should be good to go and not have the order canceled. Funny thing you mention Acura OEM Parts canceled your order... they have done that to me twice now for different items, so I just stopped using them.

I ordered the spare kit from two online places which both cancelled my order. Went to the local dealership and ordered it there and received the kit within a week. Had a 15% off coupon so it wasn’t much more than ordering it online and paying for shipping. The only thing was it was missing the tools from the box so they have to order a set for me.

Acura Parts Warehouse confirmed my order was verified and approved, so it should only be a matter of time before I get mine. Hopefully all the parts/tools will be in the package!

What is the part number(s) for the missing tools ? The factory spare kit I have ordered has a low price, and I suspect that it may not come with the tool set also.

The person behind the parts counter called Honda and the tools weren’t available to order separately so the entire kit has to be reordered. When it comes in, they’ll remove the tools and ship back the kit to Honda, which is very odd.

Just received an email that my order has been cancelled. Damn. How the heck am I supposed to know when I can get this kit? My local dealer won't price match otherwise I'd happily just get it from them on backorder.

Edit: Ugh, and now some sites are jacking the price up for this kit to be closer to $300. Lame. I guess I'll check with my dealer again. I'd rather pay ~$160 than ~$300.

Oh man that sucks! I would think that with the price being adjusted, it might be that they are including the tire now with the spare kit vice before? Hence the price difference?

You know. When I first saw the factory price of the spare-tire kit at $140, I thought to myself "there was no way that this genuine Honda factory kit would cost only $140, with so many parts included". OEM factory parts always cost an arm and a leg. Just the steel rim by itself costs more than $100. Maybe it is just too good to be true.

I think now that Honda finds its pricing mistake, so it stops selling (backordering) the kit, revises the pricing, and then resumes distribution again.

Maybe... but now I'll have an extra spare tire if that's the case, haha. I hope it includes the spare if it jumps up that high!

That would stink Here's hoping I can still get it for ~$140-$160! Going to call a couple area dealerships today.

Well shoot, I called one of my local dealers (both in my area are part of the same "family") and it seems there was a price increase after all. They're going to check with their rep to see if they can honor the price they quoted me late last month of ~$160 or they'll at least try to get me something less than the new MSRP of ~$422.

Anyone who was able to get the kit for the ~$120 listed at many sites before definitely got an AMAZING deal!

Well, quick update on my part: My local dealer and Acura really came through for me. Despite the price increase on the kit, the parts dept. worked with their Acura rep and they were able to honor their initial quote to me of ~$160 since that's what they told me before the price increase. The kit is on backorder, but they'll call me when it comes in. I've got the 145/60R20 spare tire sitting in my office now, ready to go, so I may just bring that and have them mount it when I go pick the kit up. Kudos to the folks in this thread confirming the size and sharing a deal on the tire!

While $160 is higher than what I was finding online when I started shopping for the kit, it's a lot better than the new MSRP of $422 and the general pricing around ~$300 I'm seeing for the 19" kit part # online.
