Wireless Apple CarPlay

I seen several adds for devices that can access Apple CarPlay wirelessly on cars that need a wired connection. It looks very simple and seems to work well. Any thoughts?

I bought this one, and it works flawlessly in my TLX and my wife’s Santa Fe.

The only downside to it being wireless is when listening to music and either pausing or skipping tracks, there’s about a 1s delay from when you press the button to when it executes that action. No idea why.

Keep in mind the wireless charging pad in the TLX is useless with most iPhones. The charging coil in the phone doesn’t line up with the pad so it won’t charge while using it. This is why I still use the wired CarPlay.

Pardon me for being late to the party. I recently acquired a '21 TLX earlier this month and was puzzled that CarPlay doesn't come up despite my iPhone 13 Pro being paired via wireless to the car's system. Am I understanding correctly that CarPlay is NOT functional over a wireless connection?

Thanks.

This is correct.

There are several reliable Wireless CarPlay units sold on Amazon that connect to the USB port on your car. If the wireless charging pad worked properly this is what I’d be using as I find the convenience to be unmatched. My work van, a new Ford Transit, has Wireless so it really annoys me that my high end Acura doesn’t.

The TLX Type S is a high end Acura. There’s no excuse for it to be missing features a basic ass work van made by Ford has.

This isn’t a cheap car by any means.

My 21 and 23 Type S have no issues with this on iPhone 13 or 14 pro's....

Very strange…

My phone starts charging and immediately stops. My girlfriends is the same way and I’ve spoken with my friend at the dealership and he said this is a complaint by a ton of clients with iPhones ranging from older to the newest iPhones.

yeah somehow I don’t believe this, if this were true that’d mean they put a different wireless charger in yours than any other TLX - doubt

I don't know, '23 TLX Type S and my charging pad works pretty much perfectly. I have to the have the phone scooted all the way to the top and if I accelerate too hard and it slides back it drops but otherwise haven't had a single issue with it. 13 Pro, don't have a Max to test with.

Also I went through several adapters OP, this one has been pretty much flawless. Carlinkit and some other brand I forget now were trash for me.

As far as wireless goes, I use CPLAY2AIR in my 21 S and it works perfectly. Takes a minute to boot at startup but phone connects automatically.

I would argue that it’s not working properly if it sliding slightly causes it to stop charging. You’re in a vehicle that’s in motion. It’s going to slide.

I guess, it only slides when I go full throttle so it hasn't been an issue. Wireless chargers on the nightstands are ridiculously precise as well so used to it when it comes to wireless charging.

I have used the Qi chargers that had the phone stand up so precision wasn’t necessary. Even now I’m using MagSafe so it’s perfect.

Do you use a case? I will never go without one and that could make a difference.

I just ordered the Teeran Carplay from Amazon for like $75 after shipping. A reviewed with an Acura RDX mentioned it worked perfectly for them so we'll see how it works. Keep ya'll posted.

I use the standard Apple leather case they sell. Nightstands have Samsung wireless pads, they require the phone to be sitting pretty precisely to work, heck the TLX might be better in this regard lol.

That's the one I recommend to people! It's pretty much flawless, came from a carlinkit 4.0 which was trash. Only thing is when I use my phone itself to browse the web, text, etc while it's streaming music it can generate a bit of static but if it's sitting screen off calls, music, etc is completely perfect. For me not an issue since the whole point of Carplay is to not touch the phone but I notice it sometimes when I'm googling something in a parking lot etc. Not sure if it's an adapter bug or the phone itself, works better than wireless carplay in half my rentals I've had at least lol, GM's implementation is especially unstable for me.

Interesting. I've heard it uses BT and Wifi to connect, so maybe it's background noise from the phone using more memory? I know on PCs you can pickup BG noises from BT and Wifi adapters. Amazon should be dropping it off here in about an hour so i'll be testing soon. More info to come.

Just got my Apple Carplay dongle from Teeran off of Amazon for around $75 after tax and it works flawlessly. No weird background noises and once I got my phone connected to the device via BT, it connected instantly to the Acura Car play.
