Type S Love - Real life experience
I’ll say it again, a 30 minute test drive is just not enough to judge this car.
Assumptions and speculation aside… you won’t know how great the 2021 TLX Type S is until you’re behind the wheel for your typical daily drive and a little weekend fun.
Almost 400 miles in and I can’t say how much of a great experience it is to own one. I will say also, the initial laggy pull from dead stop is starting to fade with my pedal instruction.
If you’re into the other manufacturers mentioned almost 3k times in other threads, then the car is just simply not for you. Go buy the competitor car and eat my car for lunch. It’s your money.
I have no intentions of street racing or tracking this car so the performance on paper means nothing to me in the drivers seat. Compared to the TL I used to have and the 2021 A-spec, this is night and day the better option.
I ran into two A-spec owners and both said they wish theirs had a little more “oomph.” Which is exactly why I just ponied up the extra cash to opt for the 3.0.
This was Honda’s shot to launch a more powerful engine than before and this is exactly what the Type S provides for it’s driver.
Personal opinions:
- I would prefer surround view camera although I’ve lived without it so I don’t know what I’m missing. Ignorance is bliss.
- Sequential drive mode has character. I haven’t gone balls to the wall with acceleration however pressing the “S” mode on the drive selector wakes up some manual shifting fun. I’ve only owned manual transmissions until my MDX(even my 2003 CR-V is a 5spd) and one thing I do miss - when you rev up, taking the transmission out of gear and letting it drop to idle in neutral while coasting.
- Everything is better with the V6. My grandmother taught me that with her Accord. She said “always get the V6.” She’s not wrong.
I continue to have drivers all over the place breaking necks to take a peek. The Apex Blue Pearl really pops and it’s a neat feeling to offer so much joy to other people who see me out and about. I’ll admit part of this might be caused by my vanity plate (blurred for privacy) however that can only be seen from behind me.
Say what you want; you’re surely entitled to your opinion.
For myself and others that have love for the Type S, it’s a fun ride, feels good, looks good and is one of those cars we’ve been waiting for - it’s finally here…
Thanks for stopping by!
If you don’t have anything nice to say… (call your mother and ask her what she used to teach you in your wee years before you grew up and turned into a jerk).

I took my current car home over night, drove around with the wife comfort mode roof up/down. Dropped her off & hit some of my favorite moonshine roads, trailing my old 718 Boxster-S driven by my sol in law. We test all the other drive mode combinations including the one that changes your setting based on GPS location. Never went over 4,000rpm or into WOT as I know the B58/ZF8 combination. We swapped cars & all my senses said buy it.
Brought the car back the following afternoon signed the papers & drove it home.
. That said glad you are happy with your car.

I agree 110% with this. The problem is how many dealers will give the time......what would you like to get? How much time are guys getting with the TLX-S?

For me, 2 of the 3 test drives (different dealers) were a decent length, about 20-30 minutes each. The other was the limited to just 10 mins on a lousy route. They claimed it was to keep the miles down for the person who already signed to purchase it. That's why I took it for 3 test drives though, to really get some seat time and see how it drove on different roads.

OP, I'd like put your observations into context. What other brands have you owned in the past (any German luxury)?

I did have a nice run in with an Accord 2.0T. Just hit 1,600 miles so if you roll up I’m ready to go. Hit the green light, with launch control and sequential mode, we got to next light, he rolls down the window, “dude that thing is fricking FAST!” Settles the battle with the accord drama… no match.

Somewhat of a disaster on the way down. Lots of road debris, dump trucks dropping stones, and a trail of cement bags on the highway in Sarasota. Was able to avoid getting smacked by a tire after a group of kids with flat bill hats in a Mazda decided to to whiz past me and then within a split second had a blowout that send the whole tire flying off the rim at 80mph. The PPF bumper wrap saved me from the mess of bugs, had her detailed on one of the stops once we got down to southern Florida looks great.

Nice car man! Also great little summary. I know in Montreal someone who just got their Type S and he said the exact same thing. He was a bit disappointed when he same some of the drag races and had doubts about the car. I met him yesterday after 10 days of driving and he couldn't stop praising the car. He said the Type S deliver way more that what he paid. He was driving the car up north and the roads are very curvy and perfect for testing a car. He experienced the capabilities of TYPE S. This is a guy that owned Cadi, Infiniti, Acura and MB. He has zero bias toward Acura or MB. Planning to go with him somewhere for a long drive to test drive his car soon.

Set your expectations low enough & anything is fast. Interesting reading the we don't care about the 0-60 tine guys jumping in very fast (no pun intended) to support the alleged Accord kill.

and since I want to be fair...
yes, I'll call out bear too..
at times, bear can come off as boasting, but he knows when to dial it back.
at times, it's like..yes we know you did well in life and your offspring too. but then quickly dials it back in
and Yes, I know I come off as brash and unfiltered. I know that about myself.
just saying; there really isnt anything to prove, OP. I really enjoy the color of your type-s, thus my photo criticism. It wasnt intended as a hater remark. I just really wanted to see that blue pop!

Car looks great, sounds like you are enjoying it a lot.
Frankly if my 18 TLX V6 had the power that the Type S had I would most likely still have it and not gone for the Audi. The new Type S may not be up to snuff to some other cars but my 18 just seemed so damn slow. I don't know for sure but I think my 07 type S would have taken it as that car should seemed to get up and go a lot better. It does break my 50k limit on what I want to spend on a car though but in 2017 when i got the 2018 it probably would have been under that.

There will be none of that allowed on an Acura forum. He is in the wrong place for that.
Pretty much everyone over the age of 12 can afford a dashcam if they want, not everyone can afford a type S. Not everyone buys a dashcam that can afford one and the same for the type S or many other things. I have one, took it out when I traded the car in, did use it back then, don't use it now, don't care for it and don't miss it.
Dude just got the car, maybe added a little color to the story but it was more interesting than "I drove 300 miles and passed a few cars and avoided a pothole" and I am not by any means saying the account is true or false but enjoyed reading it and didn't look too far into it. My take was more that this guy loves the car, I think that does rub some people the wrong way as they just don't like the car or Acura in general.
Some of the main critics in general pretty much accused him of not even having the car at all not long ago. At least people have gotten by that.

Me - Hey guys, I joined the forum after browsing for 10 years to share the first Type S off the assembly line in my city…
AZ Forum - ”No he didn’t.” “BMW is better.” “Accord is faster.” “No Audi S4 is the same price.” “Here’s a picture of my BMW.” “I can’t afford a $60k car but if I could I’d buy something else.”
Me - A car full of punks sped past and had a blowout in front of me…
AZ Forum - “Liar.” ”Never happened.” “Any experience you have must be backed by pictures.”
I’m starting to think half the users on here are actually the 15 year olds trolling. Quite unbelievable.
Not all butt hurt about it but seriously - I bet what’s really happening is all you guys are divorced, haven’t had a blow job in years (if ever), absolutely just hate yourselves to where you can never share enjoyment with anything unless it’s your own idea… which is why you’re divorced and don’t have any pleasures other than your CPO BMW which nobody cares about…
