Just one last thing & I will let it go. You claim you never got any feedback from the M440. Personally I think this is total nonsense. No pictures, no vid it never happened. To bad you did not enjoy the M440 but like anything else they are not for everybody.
Why I don't think you tried it:
A standard part of every driver course at Greer is to have the in car instructor insure every student gets oversteer/understeer recovery as part of the training package even in the basic this is your new car package. Understeer - He takes them on the skid pad & has then accelerate & hold the line in the turn. They are told to keep accelerating as fast as they can. They are to tell the instructor when the get the wheel vibration as they try to hold the line. He then has the try a few recovery moves like letting the wheel back to center a little till the vibration stops &/or backing off the throttle till the vibration stops. If they are having trouble he puts his hand on the wheel & guides them through the process.
Two most common mistake is turning the wheel tighter into the turn &/or hitting the brakes. If you try to turn more you will just loose more traction & hit a tree nose on. If you hit the brakes the wheels will also loose traction with bad results. Once the student can do this consistently it on to oversteer correction. Oversteer is where you will hit the tree rear first. Drifting as in the vid is part of the more advanced courses.
Anyone who have even just taken the PCD program at Greer can confirm what I said.

I have a question for you guys. When I drove M340 I felt the front end is quite heavy compared to 330. Yes the engine is the star of the show, and the handling is not affected by the weight at all, but 330 just feels easier and lighter, like I can probably have more fun with 330 with less effort. Is it just me being too used to I-4?

It’s probably because you didn’t drive it at an AutoX event held by BMW with coaches who teach you how to properly do the thing. If you did then you would understand that the only reason you felt the M340i front end was heavier is because you’re doing it wrong.

The 330 is about 300 pounds lighter, that weight difference doesn't mean anything in comparison to the 340 in terms of performance. I just did my first oil change and they gave me a 330 loaner and it sucked. I hated it, it was a base 330 not the M performance part having one which can give it better handling, brakes etc but no increase in power. I'm sure that version can be fun to drive but it's substantially slower feeling than the M340i and has worse everything. It also sits higher and has a different steering wheel, suspension etc.
Hm, did I say anything about the Type S being competitive with the M340i at the track? Funny, I can't find that anywhere. Maybe the 5G's are affecting my brain too
Come on Kevin, you're better than that. Isn't putting words into people's mouths more of a Tony thing?
Guess you got all excited & forgot this or the numbness is spreading from your arms:
Hell I wouldn't be surprised if the Type S gives the M340i a run for its money at the track, especially at a relatively low speed and technical course like Laguna Seca.
Then I posted:
Expect the Type-S will turn out pretty well but honestly can't ever come close to agreeing with you that it will give the M340 a hard time at the track.

The 330 is both lighter & closer to a 50/50 weigh distribution than the M340. Been true every since the I4 was introduced with the F series not just with the newer G series. Been a plus point with the guys who prefer the 330.
No reason for the M340 & M440 to have any major differences in the suspensions outside of compensating for any weight differences.

Seeing how the conversation has turned overnight, I am asking everyone to move back on topic, please, and to reduce the heat a little. Most of us posting in this forum don’t care about the particulars of BMWs, other than in comparison to the TLX. Please take that discussion to Bimmerzine, I mean, Audizine, I mean Car Talk-click. Thank you.
Or offer those features like digital gauge, HUD etc in a upgrade package on base TLX Type S.

This is one of the biggest issue with this forum. And when we express our opinion and point at someone's comment. We get the following: Fanboys and they claim themselves "enthusiasts" and they want Acura to become better and so on. The BS continues. It makes me laugh. But I learnt my lesson, simply ignore and never reply. For me this is an Acura forum and I will talk about Acura. Sure, we can compare and give our feedback but always derailing the conversations to Audi or BMW simply doesn't make sense. Go to an Audi forum and keep praising Audi all day and night. I am sure people will enjoy that.
Some interesting similarities looking at the TLX's great grandfather (the Acura Vigor), I guess you could say Acura's getting back to its roots...
- long dash-to-axle ratio (but from a longitudinally mounted engine)
- smaller rear-seat space (because of the longer hood and aforementioned ratio)
- excellent sound system for its class, well appointed interior
- good amount of HP/torque but not class leading
- pretty good acceleration, handling, braking
In any case, you don’t need to go on a track to discover that the steering isn’t really communicative, which has nothing to do with turn-in and responsiveness. Just get the front wheels a bit loose and it’s clearly obvious that the steering wheel isn’t telling you much about what the front wheels are doing.
I think I know what you're talking about. My '86 Accord had something they called variable-assist power steering. When you got to more than 30 MPH or so, the steering was pure mechanical rack & pinion. I loved the steering in that car.

LOL...no problem bud. Welcome back to Monday everyone.
Hey, after all this is a car forum and this thread is about Acura comparing with an Audi S4, then someone brought up the BMW. So, it's legit that people ops in their opinions. For instant, we know for sure the S4 is the slowest of the bunch vs M and AMG. There you go, I am bringing in the AMG guys.

AMG guys have better sense than hanging out here or being so petty. They don’t have to justify their preference without having to put down others
The problem i see is a few people that have been wanting to go to the German competitors and instead of just admitting it, they find excuses and false reasoning about things they find wrong with the new Type S, that they have no clue on it's handling BTW, to justify their reasoning. If you want an Audi/BMW/Mercedes, just go get it then. The Type S is something a lot of people being waiting for. It's a turbo V6 with Acura's SH-AWD system. We don't need it to be a track monster. Who does? So what it only has 355hp. Don't like it? Go get something that has more.
It's cool to do speculation and compare but a LOT of yall have been simply insulting and judging the car. Not comparing.
Back to the car? I'm not surprised about them not doing the HUD display. The accord Touring has it but when mentioned to any of my customers that want the car, they don't care about it. It's mainly the navigation, parking sensors, better stereo system, wheels, and motor.

no this thread is Type-S is almost here.
There's another thread about comparing the 2G TLX to other competition 2021 Acura TLX vs The Competition in the 2G TLX root directory.
May 20th can't come soon enough
I admit, I haven't read all the comments, but based on what I read (including my posts), no one tried to put the Type-S down. They just raised their opninions on the HUD and the brace for the trunk. I think some in here couldn't handle their opinions.
The key moment will be when they release price details together with the S4 comparison. The price delta when factoring in performance will be the key to attract non-Acura owners. Based solely on features announced so far, I doubt they'll get that many from Genesis and the Germans.

You're awesome. All your comments are great and the info you give is helpful. I wish everyone shared their opinion like you.
I agree this is a car forum and we are all allowed to discuss, compare and give feedback. But if you read some of the comments, they are simply insulting for those who own an Acura. I personally don't give a sh1t! I write what I want and I stopped answering certain "members." If I have to give my feedback about Audi or BMW, at least I will be respectful toward the other person.
Variable valve actuation device for internal combustion engine
This is probably the Type-S V6 engine's variable valve lift with a different way compared to other Honda/Acura's VTEC systems using cam lobes, this appears to have some sort of valve spring top hat/retainer that integrates in a oil pressure controlled mechanism that allows variable lift. The last drawing shows the overall lift range available. Pretty complicated Rube Goldberg style mechanism.

You left out one small detail; back then Acura was affordable. Now it's not.
Does anyone else find it odd that Acura didn’t invite any “journalists” to their Type S launch event who have any track or racing credentials? This is supposed to be the greatest sports sedan Acura has ever made, and they’re going to let it loose on one of the most iconic race tracks in the US. I would appreciate comments from Jethro over that of all those guys who are about to release their reviews on the 20th.

Think if navigation is important to them & they took a demo ride with the HUD using navigation they might change their minds. Also doing highway speed at night on an unfamiliar road seeing what your exit looks like & what lane you should be in a mile in advance is great. You never have to take your eyes off the road. The rest of the stuff you can select or not to display IMNSHO is just icing on the cake.
Seeing some idiots crossing three lanes of traffic to try to make an exit they almost missed just reinforces my opinion.

I also agree with this. When custom ordering my S5 SB, I initially thought I didn't need it since the virtual cockpit was enough. However, after thinking about it I decided to include it (1k over x years is not a major investment). Especially since I currently use it a fair bit on my current car, it does increase safety (and cough ... speeding ticket awareness). The HUD and adaptive suspension are two options that should be included in any car, makes a very noticeable difference in everyday driving.

So, all the info is dropping on May 20th but how many will actually make it to dealer lots by the end of May???? They only presold few hundred and sold out. No idea when the next batch will be released.

I think you got a very valid point. i am not familiar with track or racing journalists but totally agree.

Probably a good marking strategy for reaching most of their potential customers. They will get a more widely spread positive image with a group of, YouTubers living off views, loading happy vids while getting to run the car on Acura's dime. This will create a lot of good chatter about the car. If they actually wanted to hit the hard core side of the sports sedan market they would have done this introduction with the pros.
I would expect the pros will be brought in later after the image they want is established. Good Plan on their part. Thing is it looks like they have a good car so maybe it will work. As pyrodan007 suggested their marketing is not going to make many German car buyers switch but I think it will raise awareness among the Accord, Lexus 350 & Maxima buyers there is something to step up to. Can't hurt sales of the rest of the TLX line.

Same. No reason to bring out expert drivers to drive it when it's not race track people wanting to buy it. It's the common middle class people they're aiming for.
As stated, once the Type S image is established, they'll bring in expert drivers to drive it and give their opinions.
This from a Salesman, so Take it with a Grain of salt........ I was emailing them about availability and ordering one of these bad boys.
My name is Buddy and Im the Internet Manager for Hoehn Acura. I received your inquiry and the TLX Type S release has been delayed 3-4 months due to the microchip shortage effecting the both the tech and automotive industries. This is info directly from Acura last week.
Has anyone heard about this or this man just trying to pull a Salesman classic, oh and like every Acura dealer here in Southern California "Market Price", which means $10K ADM.

Chip shortage is legit, not to bring them up again but BMW is selling cars without some of the features because of this. No Harmon Kardon sound system and a few other features.
I'm curious if RDX/MDX production/shipping is also delayed by 1-2 months. They can easily steal some chips from other models to make up for it, at least to push the Type-S out the door. There's a big difference in getting 1 Type-S' instead of 2 versus delaying ALL of them by 3-4 months. If they can still pump out crossovers, they should shift around supplies to avoid a zero production rate.

My main takeaway from the video is that if you own a car or there's still many months remaining on the lease, hold on to it since there's a good chance the new car you want may not be available.
Don't be so quick to try to sell your current car unless you know your next car is available!

This is very possible since they have not taken the next round of orders and did such limited quantity with the first batch. I'm assuming they have enough chips to release the first batch of cars already presold.
