Type S or 2022 G70?
So I have a deposit on a Type S but the lack of info and transparency from Acura is leaving a lot to be desired, especially this close to release. On the other hand The g70 refresh is coming out around the same time. Last gen g70 did 0-60 in about 4.7 seconds which I don’t think the type s can match being a few hundred pounds heavier and less hp and torque. I’m just not so sure about spending $60,000 for a Hyundai.
what are everyone’s thoughts on genesis and the g70?

It's best to wait for the tlx-s to come out and do a through test drive. Head over to a genesis dealership and do the same with the G70. Discuss pricing with each dealership as well. Do some research on your local dealers to see which one is the best. Keep us posted and good luck

You made it this far, so I would go ahead and stick-it-out. Like @04WDPSeDaN suggests ... test drive both and keep good notes.
I would be interested to read your reviews and how you came to your final decision.
Will your 2022 Genesis G70 have a V6 with AWD also ?
Oh, this one, huh ? ... Yeah, it's pretty cool-lookin!

I also believe the G70 will beat the TLX Type S in 0-60, especially since it's similar to the KIA Stinger GT (which is another Type S killer). However, I'm thinking the TLX would be much better in handling, especially with the SHAWD. It will probably boil down to are you chasing 0-60 or handling (important as a daily commuter)?

As someone who owned a 4th gen TL, although the refreshed 2012 one, the grill is something that grows on you. If you can forget about back seat space and 0-60 time, you can certainly forget about the grill. Personally I find the G70 looks decent.

I don't personally like the refresh of the G70, at least in pictures. Then again, who knows. I loved the TLX in pictures but I'm not a fan of it in person. It could be the same story, just opposite, with the G70. Either way, it's likely not going to be a huge difference between the cars as far as performance goes.
If you have the deposit and something in writing saying you're only going to be charged MSRP, I'd stick with the Type-S. The closer this thing gets, and the more we see the sales numbers of the 2G TLX, I'm still under the impression that this is going to be a very limited run of vehicles, simply for the fact that Acura is going to scale production to the demand of the TLX over the past few months, which has been very low. The MDX-S will likely be produced in vastly higher numbers, and I would be shocked if they didn't do a RDX-S for the 4th generation.
With limited production, dealers will be marking them up, especially if you're in an area like the Northeast. I was contested prior on this idea, but I don't think Acura is intending for this to be a limited production model, but I don't think it makes practical business sense to churn them out only to have them sit on lots. Then again, Acura could just produce a bunch and force them down dealers' throats, since they make the money regardless of how long the car sits around, so I could be very wrong. I dunno ... I'm just some asshole on the internet who doesn't know a goddamn thing. ^_^
But yea, I'd just hold onto your spot, unless you see the refreshed G70 and fall head over heels in love with it ...

I’m liking the launch edition of the g70 with the v6 awd, matte gray and red interior. If I can nail down a reserve of the launch edition g70 for under $1,000 I’ll reserve both and see what comes out first. Outside of the launch edition of the g70 I rather have the type s I think.

Here is a video on the refresh G70.
Just my 2 cents. The G70 is a proven vehicle. It has aftermarket support if you desire a tune, ect. At the refresh point, whatever common issues they had should be resolved (hence my proven vehicle statement). As for the TLX-S, it is not a proven vehicle nor has it been long term tested in the real world. As for aftermarket support, there is none at the moment. So either way, for one vehicle you can do a lot of research on while the other one you can't. There's only so much you can obtain on a single road test and that goes for either vehicle or any vehicle for that matter. Regardless of what we say here, it's ultimately up to you and you only.

Can't speak for the whole line up but this car seems to be quite reliable.

For the nervous guysits standard 10-year warranty package is more than double what most entry-luxury cars offer. Grandsons Genesis Coupe, 6 years old, has only had free annual maintenance & state DMV/EPA inspections since new. Lots of 6hr runs from Atlanta to Raleigh or Ocean Isle Beach in the mix with just pad & tire replacement so far.

I wish they would have lengthened the G70 lights a couple inches or so. Aesthetically, I just think the headlights are too small to suit the rest of the car. Same for the rear tail lights. It's my biggest gripe about the vehicle, and I personally think it ruins the overall look of the vehicle. I don't mind mondo grilles on cars.
As far as the 10yr warranty, I hear some not-so-great things about it. It's something to make people feel reassured about buying the vehicle, but when push comes to shove for actually using it, it's an uphill battle for them to actually honor the warranty. At least from what I've heard from Hyundai/Kia dealer experiences. I don't know if they've gotten better in the past few years. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have gotten progressively better over time, but I still hear about some not-so-minor issues with their cars from time to time.

When my wife and I had the 2011 Optima, it was very reliable. Bought it nearly brand new with 4,000 miles all the way to 69,800. Granted, If I left it alone and didn't modify it, some of the minor issues wouldn't have been an issue. It was a great vehicle and got a ton of compliments. In Dec 2019, it saved my wifes life. Semi truck didn't see her on the highway, switch lanes into her and pushed her into a wall at 55-60 mph. Nearly all 4 corners of the car had damages and yet all the doors opened and the interior compartment looked flawless. Cops said with the way the car looked, they were surprised my wife survived. My wife is still dealing with pains from the accident but i'm beyond happy she's still here.
You keep your cars so clean and nice. I admire the way you take care of them 🙏

From my poor experience with my 2021 TLX SH-AWD Advance Trim, I would be leaning towards the G70, but I do agree that you should test drive both and see which you like more.

While the G70 might beat the TLX Type S in 0-60, I would much rather save $10k and have the type s. I can't even imagine having a Hyundai for the same price, honestly, so I guess it is definitely personal preference.
#26
You can even go further than that and save an additional $10k going to a KIA Stinger GT. Just saying...

Damn Mike, still man? I'd ask Acura Corporate if they can waive a payment all those times the vehicle sat at the dealership. I'm not all that shocked. 1st year production vehicle tend to have the most issues, not all but if you're unfortunate enough to own one.

I just speced out a loaded G70 and it comes out to around 60k. The Type-S will also be near 60k, so not sure where the 10k difference comes from. At least here in Canada, even with refreshed prices for G70.
#29
I don't think official pricing on the Launch Edition G70 is out yet but the expectation is higher than usual since only 500 will be made.

The LE-G70 will be up priced over stock G70 versions. I would like to see top end MSRP for both the TLX & G70 to see the spread.

Not a good to compare a special limited production car vs a standard issue G70 on price. What did the TLX PCM cost over a standard production version? Did they all actually sell?

OP's got deposits on both cars so let the comparisons begin once they're both out and pricing is final. I do think the MSRP on both the Type S and LE G70 will probably be closer than you think.

The biggest issue is: none of these cars are out and we have no idea about their pricing, promotions, driving dynamics and etc. write as much as you can but you are simply wasting your time.

Considering the Type-S has been spotted in the wild, I wonder how close production is. A few must have been built by now to test production line. Spring is around the corner and we have nothing new this year.

I watched a ton of video reviews from professional reviewers comparing the TLX to other makes (Genesis among them) and the handling from Acura is universally loved on the SHAWD.
I've driven a RWD 3-series, 4MATIC C-Class, 4MATIC E-Class, and Quattro A6 3.0. I'm currently leasing a '21 TLX A-Spec SHAWD.

BTW, SH-AWD does not come into the play unless there is a traction loss. 99% of time when you just drive your TLX is just a front heavy car with under-steer in corners.
You need to drive it as if you just stole it for SH-AWD to do its thing.
On the other hand if you do not see any difference between a BMW and an Acura, it is great.
Saves you money, at least in theory it should.
Not if you lease though. At the moment a 4 cyl Advance TLX is more money to lease than a BMW 540 or M340.

I drive fast on exit/entry ramps and sometimes I scare the car in front of me ("super pursuit mode" for those who are old enough to remember old school Knight Rider). I never felt confident doing these maneuvers with the previous cars (maybe the A6 but that was a lot more expensive car).
My A-Spec SHAWD lease is $415/month, taxes included and $3k downpayment for 36 months/10k miles a year. An Advance trim would not have costed me much more and definitely not 540 or M340 range.
